The Secret's Out - this book is a WINNER!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Child Secrets (Milford-Haven, Book 3) (Paperback)
Last night I was up til the wee hours with CHILD SECRETS - it was wonderful to revisit the Milford Haven folks again after so long, and to see them in such bold relief, via descriptive prose. I've long been a fan of the radio series and the tapes, and of course, Books I and II. But now I don't think there's any question - this is my FAVORITE Milford-Haven book (so far!!??) It's so much more complex and deeply involving because with this book, we're delving into areas that can only be reached with the written word, I think. Don't know how long I can wait for Book IV!!

Deep insightful characters, exciting adventure, sexy romance,

Wow - 'Child Secrets' is fine story telling. In this book author Mara Purl is extending backward very artfully. It's hard to imagine how she manages not to violate the outline which the soap opera affords, and yet have a lot richer fabric of the whole story. I was pleasantly surprised at some of the things - such as the the detail of Miranda observing birds in the wild, and the feel for her being an artist. The sex scenes were handled very well - exciting but tasteful. I thought it was quite a thing to have Sally having had an affair with Tony in the past - gives her a lot more character and substance, and it accounts for his coming on the scene. Same thing with Cynthia - her past explains so much about her behavior now. And talk about excitement - that underwater off-shore oil rig segment was high-tech tension. Each novel is deeper and more life-like and realistic, bringing the town and all its characters more and more vividly to life. The whole series is coming on great. It's great stuff!

I don't think there's any question--this is my FAVORITE Milford-Haven book (so far!!??) The radio drama was one thing--this book series in another altogether!! Just turned the final page in "Child Secrets." Truly, a delightful read! In no time, I found myself caught up in the story of the lives of the people of Milford-Haven. It's fun and so informative. Thank you sharing your talent and knowledge of humans and life with myself and all your readers.

Well written and gripping!,

As former Managing Editor for the Associated Press, I knew Mara Purl's work as a journalist. In her Milford-Haven novels I thought the writing was crisp and clean, the dialogue realistic, the scenes well described. The books are well written and should be gripping to soap opera fans. I salute her ingenuity.
