This volume contains 36 postcard-size art reproductions to be cut out and used for the first 3 steps of the program: matching identical paintings, pairing two paintings by the same artist and grouping four paintings by the same artist. The exercises in this volume are more challenging than the Easy and Intermediate Volumes. Carefully chosen to appeal to young children, the selections include a wide variety of subjects and styles. Appropriate for 3-9 year-olds in 3 levels of gradually increasing challenge. Using the How to Use Child-size Masterpieces Handbook, also by Aline Wolf, is suggested.

Aline Wolf has written over 25 books for children, teachers and parents. She has long been regarded as one of the most respected interpreters of Maria Montessori's philosophy and methods. Other titles include: Nurturing the Spirit in Non-Sectarian Classrooms, Our Peaceful Classroom, A Parents' Guide to the Montessori Classroom, and Montessori Insights for Parents of Young Children, among others. Mrs. Wolf is the mother of 9 and grandmother of 17.

This book is a set of postcards that you can use to introduce your young child to art (paintings). If you are interested in using these postcards the way they are intended, I strongly suggest you consider buying the parent/teacher guide. The pictures are reproduced gorgeously. They are on thick, stiff paper so they are not easily torn or ruined. There are pairs to match, sets to sort, and more. This is a great addition to a classical education.

We found these cards to be a perfect complement to our homeschool art education. While we pay for outside artistic technique lessons, I wanted to learn right along with the children about the great artists. I purchased the companion book, How to Use Childsize Masterpieces ..., and found that the combination provided hands-on fun and learning. The children have developed appreciation for different art styles and eras and are beginning to recognize works of artists in different venues!
