This beautiful book contains 35 postcard-size full-color art reproductions representing five modern schools of art: Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Cubism, Surrealism and Abstract. Each card has a brief description of the artist and the painting on the reverse side of the card, ending with a question to direct the child s attention to the details of the painting. There is also a card introducing each school of art, 5 cover cards, a short timeline of the five schools of art on the back cover, and brief instructions on the inside cover. Step 6 - Learning About the Schools of Art - introduces each school of art separately. The introduction card and seven reproductions help the child to recognize the distinctive characteristics of each school of art. A second activity, which requires two copies of the book, allows the child to match the names of the artists of the school to their paintings. Step 7 - Grouping Paintings from the Same School of Art - is a sorting activity. The children can mix the paintings from three or more schools of art and then sort them according to the characteristics of the school, learned in Step 6. Author: Janine S.
