3.0 out of 5 stars Great concept, but...
This is a great concept and something that has worked for many years in the Montessori classroom. However, I would point out that the print quality isn't really the best compared to more modern examples, and as another reviewer pointed out, sometimes the lines don't really line up. You need to be very careful not to cut into the artwork!

I wound up using this...

I believe that exposing your child to a lot of different things is a good idea. I particularly believe two of the most overlooked things that are easy to expose children to is art and music.

This book is book one of the postcard series for exposing your child to art. This book is just postcards of different artists and styles of art. There are multiples of some of these postcards that you can use for matching.

If you do nothing else except look at these postcards with your child, you have done a lot.

If you follow her easy to do 'program' of matching, buying and sorting postcard sized art, this book is a must. It sure beats trying to find your own postcards and mount them.

As an added note, it is well worth the extra money to get the parent/teacher book explaining why and how to complete these easy activities with your child.

The concept is wonderful. A set of art cards printed to introduce art to the very young. But the actual product brought some unpleasant surprises. I wish I'd known the following:

1. Four art cards are on the back cover and exposed to wear before you receive it.
2. The cutting lines printed on the back of the art cards may not be centered properly around the art on the front side!
3. The additional "art cards" provided for the front of your folders/envelopes are on the front cover. The images are reduced and cropped, with a black border on three sides.
4. Each "level" book has an identical matching exercise as the first "step". Companion matching exercises are the second "step". Grouping is the third "step". In each book (level) the task (step) is slightly more difficult.

I'm back to buy the next two books so that I can have a series of identical matching exercises of increasing difficulty to present before I present the companion matching. Seems these should be sold by "step" rather than "level".

I wound up using this in the course of our homeschooling curriculum, but I also came across some awesome little art cards here on Amazon for super cheap. If you search for "Small-Format Card Books" you'll find several sets of small art postcards featuring a variety of important artists. They are mostly included in the Prime shipping program and are currently part of the 4-for-3 deal, to boot. At (way) less than 2 dollars for a pack of 6 cards, it's a steal and a great way to expand the idea presented in this series.

Love this series! I have young kids and teach in a rurual area. Not a lot of museums to go to around here. These cards are a perfect way to introduce art to young ones. They are hands on and great quality. This book is only the postcards not the "how to" book. After cutting apart the postcards you do not have a book left at all. So if you want the instructions for using them you need the "How to use Child Size Masterpieces". However I do know some moms that use with out that book. They create their own games and drills to help the kids learn.

I want to see a sample of the other books in this catalog. I would like to see how the book is in the inside. Overall the book was really good and had a good bibliography of Renoir.
