This resource guide summarizes what is currently known about the complicated disorder of childhood apraxia of speech. Fundamental aspects of the disorder are discussed in depth and different viewpoints regarding apraxia are compared, eliminating the need to track down multiple sources. Detailed practical assessment and treatment guidelines provide speech language pathologists with a framework of how to help children with apraxia and the motivation behind each treatment. Case studies bring material into a real world context.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"As a bilingual speech-language pathologist, I found this guide to be both useful and informative. The text is a good referral source for questions about specific cases, hands-on assessment and treatment tools." -- Beth Levetown, MA, CCC-SLP

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, May 5, 2005
This review is from: Childhood Apraxia of Speech Resource Guide (Singular Resourse Guide Series) (Paperback)
I purchased this book because my 28 month old son was not talking. The speech pathologist narrowed it down to apraxia but would not commit to the diagnosis. Needless to say we were very frustrated. After reading the 1st chapter I felt like a huge weight had been lifted - it described our son perfectly. This book is very technical, I think it is written for someone with a background in this field but I was able to get a lot of ideas from it. His speech pathologist has explained many of the more complex issues. All in all it is a great book!

This review is from: Childhood Apraxia of Speech Resource Guide (Singular Resourse Guide Series) (Paperback)
This book had a few good suggestions for the lay person working with an apraxic child. But for the most part it is directed at the Speech therapist. The tools and assessments are for the speech therapist and not a parent to use. The terms and techniques are very clinical. The two best pieces of advice in the book for a parent or lay person are to use Dr. Suess books and slower music. Good luck.
