5.0 out of 5 stars A "must read" for any bereaved parent...comfort for the soul
After the loss of my son, one of the first things I did to survive was to turn to books on the subject of bereavement. I was desperate for words of advice on how to live with the unspeakable pain. I did find many books on the subject and must have read dozens ...and many did help me, but none offered the kind of comfort that "Childlight" has given...

Donna and Dary....I want to say thank you so much for writing "Childlight"....while reading your book, I found myself crying with the moms, then smiling and feeling the closeness of our children. When I lost my son,Mike, I searched for books to read, support groups, someone to talk to, to help me....It took me 5 years to find that support.....in the MOMs...

After the loss of my son, one of the first things I did to survive was to turn to books on the subject of bereavement. I was desperate for words of advice on how to live with the unspeakable pain. I did find many books on the subject and must have read dozens ...and many did help me, but none offered the kind of comfort that "Childlight" has given me.

"Childlight" is first hand accounts of what mothers have experienced after losing a child...how their children have reached out to communicate with them, to let them know they haven't "really" left them at all. I think the book will help mothers to be aware of the many ways their child may do this, sometimes it is very subtle signs that are given and the grief we feel is so over-powering it may prevent us from "hearing" them. To me the important message was to remain open to all signs, and not be too quick to dismiss something by telling ourselves we are just imagining it. By comparing my own experiences to those of some of the mothers in the books, I am convinced my son has been with me and this gives me great comfort. I reccomend this book to any parent who has lost a child, or if you have a friend or family member who has lost a child...you will find comfort and hopefully some peace too.

I lost a son in l999. I felt him very near in the beginning months and had little things happen that I considered "signs" of his love. I sometimes thought I was crazy, until I read this book. Now I KNOW my son was reaching out to let me know he was happy and fine, and that he is always with me. Thank you for this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching Stories ... With a Message of Hope, May 5, 2001
By

This review is from: Childlight : How Children Reach Out To Their Parents From the Beyond (Paperback)
This book is sure to touch the hearts of all those who have lost a child or someone very dear to them.

Each story shares a heartwarming glimpse of the life and personality of each child ... and then explains the tragic circumstances in which each child was lost. The heartbreak and overwhelming sadness of those who wrote these stories is evident, yet it offers bereaved parents an honest view in understanding how others have struggled to cope with their losing their child.

But each story does not end with grief and despair ... each story offers a message of hope. These parents have found true comfort in knowing that their children, although tragically gone from their everyday lives, offer signs that they are okay and still with them.

Highly recommended for anyone seeking comfort and understanding in how to try to live with their heartbreaking loss.

Karen Yoder, co-author, "The Heart Behind the Hero"

Well written accounts of messages from our children. A Mom needs to know that somehow, somewhere, our children still live and are ok. A great source of comfort and also a great resource book for help in coping with this awful grief. These experiences prove, there is MORE. And we have to believe in something. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Donna Theisen ROCKS!now, AND in the hereafter!!, March 12, 2004

This review is from: Childlight : How Children Reach Out To Their Parents From the Beyond (Paperback)
I bought this book simply based on the inspiring previous endeavor by author, Theisen, "Angels of Emergency" which gave me the courage to go back to college to become an EMT at almost 50 years of age. Childlight delivers. If you've ever had a child, or been one, read this warm and eye-opening account from the personal lives of people, PARENTS, just like us. Considering her former occupation as rescue person, I found the stunning realistically portrayed despair at the accident she could not rescue, her own sons', touching and truthful. Much like funeral directors, when it happens to their own families, first responders are at LEAST as shocked, saddened, and sometimes hopeless as the rest of us in the world. Read with an open mind, this book can be savoured, and read slowly, allowing the possibility that man, ever so arrogant, perhaps doesn't know everything......that somehow, we must all start to PAY ATTENTION!! I strongly feel that by describing her own pain, just as she described her own feelings of doubt in her earlier book, she allows us to live vicariously through her experience, which can be as liberating and soothing as a glass of lemonade on an August day...... and brings us the knowledge that someone else has felt the way parents of lost children feel. Enlightening,transfixing,overwhelming.....I can't suggest you read this enough, whoever you may be. Let's face it, none of us are getting out of here alive....don't we want to know what happens next?????
