Not a total waste of time due to copious plot twists,

Near superpowered anti-hero in a marooned on a desert planet plot. Quick paced. Interesting post-apocalyptic revelations near end of book. I was motivated enough to chase down the sequel. I see the author has long since outed her gender from this psuedonym and opted to favor fantasy. This is certainly not cyberpunk or ArthurClark/LarryNiven grade hard sf, but plot elements normally (over)used in fantasy are here given reasonably convincing non-supernatural raison d'etre. Amusingly ghastly spin on telepathic seduction by one of the villains for the prurient and Wm Barton fans. Protagonist's ethical reform for the sake of the plot is not well motivated but it's not the most cardboard characterization I ever read, an oppobrium I could place upon some much stronger selling and far lengthier titles & series I've suffered through to get my sf satiation.
