About the Author

Dr. Despotidis and his wife Teresa are the parents of two sons, Nicholas and Gregory. It was his children's need for eyeglasses at very young ages that sparked his passion for corneal reshaping and drove him to become a pioneer in its use among children and young adults. "Dr. D" (as his patients fondly refer to him) has been practicing optometry for over 20 years and strives to bring a heightened level of compassion to every individual in his care. Dr. Despotidis graduated with honors from The State College of Optometry in New York and later completed a residency in Vision Therapy/Pediatric Vision. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and is a Board Certified Fellow in Vision Therapy with the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. He has published papers in optometric journals and is a frequent lecturer. He is co-founder of EyeCare Professionals, P .C., in Hamilton Square, New Jersey. Dr. Despotidis is a 4th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do Karate and co-founder of Martial Arts With Hearts (MAWH) a philanthropic organization started with his instructors Bryan Klein and Michael Crocco. This review is from: My Children Are Nearsighted Too: How Corneal Reshaping Helped My Kids See Better Without Glasses... And How It May Help Yours, Too (Paperback)
This book was very informative. As a parent, it made the causes and treatment of nearsightedness very understandable. It also explained simple steps parents can take to help maintain their children's healthy vision.

Dr. Despotidis has written an easy to read book with a wealth of information about nearsightedness and vision in general. Any parent concerned about his/her child's increasing need for glasses will find this book very helpful and informative.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a "MUST READ" for anyone who wears glasses or has children wearing glasses, March 23, 2009
This review is from: My Children Are Nearsighted Too: How Corneal Reshaping Helped My Kids See Better Without Glasses... And How It May Help Yours, Too (Paperback)
Dr. Despotidis has really done the public a huge favor. He has taken a subject that few people understand, that effects most of us and our children, and has given insight, understanding, and hope to the millions of people who find themselves "victims" of stronger and stronger glasses.
The book is an easy read, and highlights the current successful, safe, FDA approved, non-surgical treatments of myopia or nearsightedness. The many case examples are inspiring. I highly recommend this book if you are concerned about your or your child's vision and reject the same old recommendations that traditional eye doctors have been offering for the last 30-40 years or more. After you read this book you will definately want to pass it along to a relative, friend, or colleague. Thank you Dr. Despotidis for sharing your expert knowledge and experience. I will recommend this book to my patients.
