A Great Contribution,
This review is from: Children and Babies with Mood Swings: New Insights for Parents and Professionals (Paperback)
Drs. Greenspan and Glovinsky and C. Glovinsky have demonstrated how to guide parents of young children with mood swings though the most challenging moments of the day. The authors focus on sensory issues as a way to understand when very young children with irritability, moodiness and more severe behaviors are under or overaroused and unable to self-regulate. They begin with helping parents understand how to help their babies and children calm down into a regulated state. Other aspects of the DIR method are integrated into the interesting and helpful case studies. This book is a contrubution that will help parents and those who help parents of children diagnosed with a mood disorder or are just "moody."

Help and Hope for families and educators working with mood swings in children,

This review is from: Children and Babies with Mood Swings: New Insights for Parents and Professionals (Paperback)
Having taught preschool for 25 years I believe that I've seen over 500 children. During that time I know that there have been several children with mood disorders and yet people would glare at me whenever I'd suggest it. "Children don't have BiPolar disorders", they'd say. As if all of the bipolar adults simply woke up that way one day.
Finally, a book which supports the theory that indeed there ARE children suffering with mood swings. And not only does Children and Babies with Mood Swings support the theory, it gives concrete suggestions on how to help, cope, and encourage these children to go on to lead happy, productive lives. A great resource book for parents and professionals! Thank you Drs. Greenspan and Glovinsky!

I like the book, I love Greenspan. The only criticism I have is that both children used as examples are attending private schools. This book will not help you find ways to help your child in a public school setting. That said, I do like the book and there are many great insights.
