5.0 out of 5 stars FLUID - DARK - MAGNIFICENT
This new release by NON (a.k.a. Boyd Rice) is another instrumental album like its predecessor "Receive The Flame" ...but there the similarities end. (That album was also issued as a 7" vinyl record featuring locked grooves based on the CD tracks. In a way, listening to the loops repeat themselves endlessly was as good as playing the CD, perhaps better.)

This new release...

This CD is a bunch of looped clicks with some static. Do you really think it's music, goy?

This new release by NON (a.k.a. Boyd Rice) is another instrumental album like its predecessor "Receive The Flame" ...but there the similarities end. (That album was also issued as a 7" vinyl record featuring locked grooves based on the CD tracks. In a way, listening to the loops repeat themselves endlessly was as good as playing the CD, perhaps better.)

This new release is very "composed" by comparison. Exceptionally fluid, with one track melting into the next, it evokes dark dreamscapes that set a new benchmark for the "dark ambient" genre. While Mr. Rice has created isolated tracks like this before on previous releases, this is the first time that an entire album has been devoted to it. While not harsh, like so many earlier NON releases, this will not disappoint anyone who enjoys the work of Boyd Rice. In fact, it demonstrates his ability to master any realm of industrial music, be it loud with a lyrical emphasis on Social Darwinism or, in this case, a "softer" instrumental album that takes the dark side to new heights in a vastly different manner.

Highly recommended as an "introduction" to NON or as another great addition to Mr. Rice's ever-expanding discography.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gather Round Children, July 20, 2004
This review is from: Children of the Black Sun (Special Ed) (DVD) (Audio CD)
Boyd Rice is one of the great unsung heroes of our time. Let's face it most people don't know who Boyd is but that is only due to their ignorance. This muli-talented artist is know to we the select few and that's the way it should be. "Children of the Black Sun" is a sonic insult and complement at the same time. It creates a mood that uleashes an unlimited amoumt of emmotions all meant to harden the metal of your soul and spine. Live for you.. live for life ... defend your right to survive. The only short coming is the DVD. Why it exists is beyond me. CUT IT OUT!

Boyd Rice, under the "NON" moniker, has been making dark experimental for over 20 years. This album follows his last, "Recieve the Flame" in a meditative, austere direction. Past are the loud voiced proclimations of war, might, force, conquest, it is now time for quiet confidence in an astounding musical statement. This album explores certain strains of gnostic mythology, particularly "underground stream" styled gnosis (there are many gnostic mythos). This is dark, almost lovecraftian, but spiritual and awake. I would recomend this to anyone, though it will be accepted by few.

4.0 out of 5 stars dark soundscapes, October 8, 2011
By
boyd rice put out another dark imaging under the non moniker. this is a 2 cd set, the first cd is regular, the second dvd is 5.1 surround. both have same soundscapes on them. keeping true to chaos and the dark path, these 6 tracks are very intense. good horror soundtrack material, or images of the underworld realms of the left hand path. very good release and recommended to those that are into myth and magick.

5.0 out of 5 stars How does he do it?, January 3, 2005
This review is from: Children of the Black Sun (Special Ed) (DVD) (Audio CD)
This is just loops. Just drones. That's it. Nevertheless, some of the most heart wrenching music of our age. Scary and very beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid release, May 25, 2009

Imagine being crushed by a large boulder. Imagine being in the bottom of a cave with no light source. Imagine the darkness of the grave. Imagine the coldness of space.

Despite this album's short length (31:02), there is no break between any of the tracks.
Really, consider this a single piece, "Children of the Black Sun," which has been divided into eight movements.

Organ, timpani, brass, harp, fire, vocals -- this album is roughly the sonic equivalent of Dante's "Inferno."

Pack a lunch (or at least a flask).

4.0 out of 5 stars awesome music disturbing idealogy, July 29, 2005
This review is from: Children of the Black Sun (Special Ed) (DVD) (Audio CD)
NON has some awesome noize music. In todays world of hatred , racism , intolerance and apathy- the mindset of this self proclaimed neo-nazi , and head of the church of satan (i do believe this is correct, or at one time was with Michael Monhiyan)-- it is not a needed thing. I love his music- his solo stuff but as I matured and decided to be an adult- I put away childish things and the need for an image of intensity. take it for what it is- make up your own mind--- enjoy the noise- follow your heart and mind about his beliefs and rationalization. We must not forget that htis is the same Boyd Rice who fought in the 1970's for the release of Charles Manson from prison.Dont believe it- do your research--- it is in the Re-Search books , the Industrial Revolution issue that features Cabs, TG , EN ,PTV etc. Dont let my knowledge and opinions make up your mind- listen and make up your own.As I said--- musically- Boyd / NON is a genius for his noise and other "poppier" sounds he has done.
