Excellent reference guide, All inclusive,

This review is from: Children with Cerebral Palsy: A Parent's Guide (Paperback)
This is one of the first books I've read on cerebal palsy. It is the most excellent resource I've found thus far. It is factual, has many resources, pictures and little excerpts of parents real life thoughts on dealing with their child and their disability. Easy to read, not heart-breaking, but very encouraging. Helps you to realize there are many options out there and a lot of hope for your child.

This book has been extremely helpful since the words cerebral palsy were first breathed to us when our daughter was ten months old and I still refer to it from time to time five years later! Easy to read and understand with out being condescending. A wonderful, wonderful resource for parents.

This book is thoughtfully and thoroughly written. It provides a wealth of information and resource on the many issues of raisng and caring for a child with Cerebal Palsy. I am a Registered Nurse and found the information to be clear, helpful, and direct. Each chapter has parents' statements which can be reassuring and insightful. It's always nice to hear you're not alone in what you are going through, thinking, and feeling. The book will teach you many things and it can help you to get organized in care planning for your child. It also addresses taking into condsideration the necessity of caring for yourself and other members of your family. I am the Mama of two boys, 31 and 17 mo. old. My older son has mild CP.

I have a child with Cerebral Palsy.,

Children with Cerebral Palsy - A Parent's Guide saved my life. My beautiful 2 yr. old daughter had just been diagnosed with CP and I felt as if she had been given a death sentence. After reading this guide for my child I was able to mourn the loss of a "normal" child and get real with the fact that she had Cerebral Palsy and that this disability would not go away. I gave a copy of the book to my mother so she could better understand CP and not to be afraid of it. Emily is now 10 yrs. old and in 4th grade (regular schooling). She is getting A's and is walking with the use of a walker. Emily has been a real "teacher" for kids not familiar with CP. THANK YOU Elaine Geralis from the bottom of my heart for all of the research and unbelievable information you put in your book.I no longer see CP as a "death sentence", but an opportunity to educate others about Cerebral Palsy. I have recommended your book to several "newly diagnosed" families and you have helped them too. I recommend this first and foremost to anyone that knows someone with CP or is a caregiver of someone who has Cerebral Palsy.

This is an excellent "from the beginning" book. It is a great resource for parents with any special needs child to help them navigate the services available for their child.
The information on CP was written in a format that is easy to follow, and gives you the vocabulary as well as the questions to ask of your providers.

I bought and read this book when my son was first diagnosed with CP approximately 10 years ago. It contained a wealth of useful information and was easy to read. I especially enjoyed the parents comments at the end of each chapter which helped me relate my own feelings and frustrations with other parents.

This was the first book I bought when my grandson was diagnosed with spastic diplegia. I found no hope in it and continued looking until I found Advanced Bio-mechanical Rehabilition. Their web-site is www.blyum.com. We have been doing ABR for six months and the changes are miraculous. Finally something to actually help our kids physically instead of teaching them to deal with less and less movement as they age.

This book is a must have for any person who cares for a child who has any form of cerebral palsey.I rarely if ever heard the term cerebral palsey used to describe my child by any health care professional. My child was six years old when I picked up a copy of this book out of curiosity at a childrens hospital, read the whole book, happy to have good information, angry because of not having the information sooner.I immediately shot some expressive words to any doctor or surgeon who came into visit with our family. Why hadn't this book ever been something offered to us as helpful information. So what if I'd taken offense to the term cerebral palsey! The facts are he has a form of brain damage which in turn is just that cerebral palsey! This could have helped me out with so much in those first three years of his precious life.Better late than never, but should still be a must read to parents or care givers who enter a child into a birth to three prgram.
