Book Description

This book is a practical guide to the effective treatment of cerebral palsy in children. It provides a set of principles by which to observe and analyze individual patients' problems and then plan treatment. With the help of this book, non-specialists working with children with cerebral palsy can make decisions and choose the appropriate therapeutic activities for each child. It includes examples of how to apply these principles to real-life situations, using easy-to-follow descriptions and illustrations. New to this revised edition is a chapter on sensory integration problems with children with cerebral palsy, which looks at ways of evaluating and then dealing with these problems. The author also integrates theory with practical skills more closely.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The most complete and most accessible book that has been written on therapy for children with cerebral palsy." --David Werner, HealthWrights

About the Author

Archie Hinchcliffe lived and worked for many years in different countries in Africa and the Middle East. During that time she sought ways to pass on to therapists and others working with children with cerebral palsy (CP) the knowledge and skills that she had learned and practiced.

Her practice is based on the Bobath/NDT Approach, having completed the Bobath course while working as a community pediatric physiotherapist in London in 1986. She later took a medical education diploma in Dundee University which enabled her to set up formal training programs in a number of different countries.

Nowadays she works as a volunteer with the British Executive Service Overseas teaching courses in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. She also works in partnership with People Potential designing special furniture, such as chairs and standing frames made from cardboard for children with CP.
