Originally entitled "The Children of the House", this is the story of a divided family in the years leading up to World War I. Based on the Warwickshire childhood of Sir Brian Fairfax-Lucy, it portrays a way of life which was vanishing for ever. Philippa Pearce also wrote "Tom's Midnight Garden".
