Those are the striking words of a young boy in tears as he simply cannot reason why his parents will be divorcing and his life will be uncertain.

This PBS film covers all aspects of divorce - the national breakdown. Host Fred Barnes narrates and speaks with various authorities on children of divorce. And we all have known that divorce does hurt the children, it is powerful to see all that happens in one 60 minute film. Aside from the experts, you will hear from the children, younger and teens their upsets and fears.

The national breakdown (divorce) is said to have begun in the 60s, the me-generation, the no-fault (get a divorce for any reason, anytime). The focus lies on our lawmakers as to what needs to change with divorce. Parents need to work on a marriage and not bail out as quickly. The social ethic of commitment to children vanished in the 60s.

According to experts, parents are thinking of their pain and suffering and the children's pain is secondary. Children do not bounce back easily. They are traumatized, traumatized again with parents dating, traumatized with blended family life and new home situations. Children are often thrust into adulthood. They become substitutes for the missing parents, protectors of the parent who is the victim, fearful of their own adulthood. The children suffer in grades, act out, feel shamed and mostly, they feel there is no one to talk to.

Divorce does hurt the children. Any couple should begin with this tape before they even think of a divorce. That doesn't mean divorce should not happen, because sometimes it should. But think about it, is what the experts believe. ....Rizzo
