Book Description

April 30, 2009 1602643865 978-1602643864
Lorilyn Roberts' hopes of motherhood came to a devastating end when her husband left her for his pregnant girlfriend. Eight years later, Children of Dreams reveals God's restoration of her dreams through the international adoption of her two daughters. Written as creative nonfiction, an analogy is drawn between the physical adoption of children and God's spiritual adoption as recounted in the Bible. Ms. Roberts skillfully weaves in her own back‑story while telling about her adventures in Nepal and Vietnam, filled with political intrigue.

Scriptural insights and reflections interspersed throughout the book show Lorilyn's reliance upon her heavenly Father when all hope seemed lost. The reader will enjoy the vivid descriptions as well as a window into the plight of those struggling to survive where basic necessities may not be available. The adventure includes meeting a future Prime Minister, a missing baby, and many other surprises.

The medical mystery in Children of Dreams was featured on Animal Planet's "Monsters Inside Me," in the episode of "Shapeshifters."

Ms. Roberts' appearance on the show was to inform adopting families about certain medical conditions endemic in developing countries.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Children of Dreams" is a very much recommended read for Christians considering adoption.
--Midwest Book Review

Children of Dreams is a tale of hope and faith and finally fulfillment.  In the end, the Psalm was for her fulfilled: "He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord!"
--Christian Book Review

"The story is compelling, heart warming, thrilling, and to describe it as an adventure is an understatement."
--Carol DeMar, American Vision

"I was moved by Lorilyn's story of her going to the ends of the earth to find her daughters."
--Jerry B. Jenkins, Novelist & Biographer, owner, Christian Writers Guild.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope and Joy June 18, 2009
Format:Paperback
Until reading "Children of Dreams" I had no idea how difficult it was to adopt children from a foreign country. Lorilyn Roberts' inspiring story doesn't mask her rollercoaster of emotions as she struggles to trust God when faced with insurmountable problems. She boldly faces her fears, renews her faith and ultimately experiences joy amidst her trials. Her beautiful writing draws you instantly into an exciting story of love and faith. This book contains two stories of adoption. She adopts one daughter from Nepal and a second daughter from Vietnam. Both stories are heart warming and explain the struggles that are typical during the adoption process. I can highly recommend this book to anyone who is considering adoption. "Children of Dreams" proves that even in our darkest hour God's holy presence is with us and He can turn sorrow into joy. This is one of the most inspirational stories I have ever read. I recommend it highly to anyone who loves a good story!

5.0 out of 5 stars You don't want to miss this book! September 2, 2011
Format:Paperback
When I received my copy of "Children of Dreams" in the mail I thought I would just open it and take a look. Before I knew it, I was on Chapter Eight and looking forward to reading the rest of Lorilyn's story. Even though this is a non-fiction book it reads like fiction. Lorilyn has put so much detail into her story you feel like you've been transported to the far regions of Nepal and Vietnam along with her. She tells of her trials and hardships she endured to adopt her children Manisha and Joy. Throughout the book she relates the process of adoption with our adoption by our heavenly Father. You will not look at adoption the same after you read Loyilyn's book. You will not be sorry you read "Children of Dreams" whether you are adoptive parents or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read! April 22, 2011
By Eddie
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Children of Dreams is a must read for anyone going through the foreign adoption process, preparing to adopt, or would like to see the commitment a parent must dedicate their life to in order to bring a child home.

Corruption, heartache, cultural challenges all stand in the way of adopting. Lorilyn endured this process twice. I appreciate her honest writing as she shares her inner struggles and hope. The road to each adoption was paved with a series of miracles so that it's easy to wonder how anyone endures the process at all. Just as the adoption seemed hopeless, the Lord would open a door. As Americans, we don't understand the mindset of impoverished nations. Manipulation, corruption, and the expectation of bribes are a normal part of life in many countries.

Experience the journey as Lorilyn takes you through the adoption of her two daughters. Watch her grow and learn to trust in God. This unique book is a must read for anyone. It gives a greater appreciation for the analogy the Bible uses when we are called the adopted children of God.
