Editorial Reviews

Unemployed Domenico decides to rob a bank in Italy and escape to Switzerland. Everything goes horribly wrong and he takes a hostage. The man he chooses, Tommaso, is more unscrupulous than Domenico. He hates his wife, his business is doing poorly and the kidnapping appears to be a good way to disappear and start over again. The victim takes over the plans and becomes the leader as things go from bad to worse. Children of Hannibal is both an unpredictable caper film and an often hilarious road movie.

1.0 out of 5 stars A fairly useless movie July 14, 2010
This is a very forgettable movie about an unlikely groups of people who end up escaping Italy to seek refuge from their miserable lives in Africa. The story "line" is preposterous, with characters getting in and out the story for semi-random reasons. Poor screenplay, mediocre acting, poor attempts of humor and wit throughout. Diego Abatantuono and Silvio Orlando have acted in many recent good Italian movies, although they tend to play more or less the same character/role in most of them (and this movie is no exception). But if you enjoyed movies such as Mediterraneo or Not of This World and you expect something even remotely as good, you are on the wrong track. This is a useless movie and it's no surprise no one knows about it. The soundtrack is interesting, but the video quality of the DVD is remarkably poor. Really the only good thing about the movie is that it's less than 90 minutes long. We only watched it as a rental and I can't imagine any good reason why anyone should want to buy it.

This Italian-comedy was a real pleasant surprise! If "Figli di Annibale" ("Children of Hannibal" from 1998), does not make you crack-a-smile and laugh uncontrollably, then there's no hope for you! When down on his luck 'Domenico' (Silvio Orlando) decides to head north, to rob a bank no less, things really get out-of-hand. In order to escape, he takes a willing hostage 'Tommaso' (Diego Abatantuono "Mediterraneo" 1991), and together they hit the road and make a run for it. I don't want to give anymore away, so as to spoil it for anyone. Suffice it to say: if you're like me, and appreciate the gesticulating-comedy and the 'play on words' that the Italians are masters of; then believe me, you will be in stitches with this one! The cast: Silvio Orlando, Diego Abatantuono, Valentina Cervi, Flavio Insinna, etc. This recalled the classic comedies of Toto, Alberto Sordi, Marcelo Mastroianni, Carlo Verdone, etc. The DVD picture and sound quality from TLA Releasing is very good. NTSC, Italian (English subtitles), NR 90 mins.

Love and Peace,
Carlos Romero

5.0 out of 5 stars A funny movie February 24, 2014
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Suspend your disbelief and sit back and enjoy this funny movie. I can never hear "Should I Stay or Should I Go" without thinking of this movie. It's a light, slightly goofy story, but good entertainment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not that bad! December 28, 2010

I thought this film was humorous. It has some slow parts, but was overall enjoyable. It is not as bad as these reviews say.
