Pure progressive rock,
This review is from: Children (Audio CD)
Closer to the early Marillion and Genesis than to Rush, this is an excellent example to prove symphonic rock is alive and kicking. It's a pity not many people know about Iluvatar... the boys deserve a massive audience. Great sound and inspired songs for all rock lovers!

Intelligent Rock - Beautifully Played,

This is a gem of an album, reminiscent of Marillion or Genesis. Superb songs and tight playing. I just keep playing it again and again - it's infectious. Progressive rock lives!

Iluvatar - Another Great Album,
By
This review is from: Children (Audio CD)
Iluvatar's 2nd album "Children" came relatively quickly on the heals of their debut. Guitarist Mick Trimble is gone replaced by Dennis Mullin. Mullin brings a slightly heavier guitar sound to Iluvatar's melodic progressive rock that adds a bit of fire to rockers like "Cracker". Overall I did not like this album quite as much as the first one, but it is still a great piece of work with everything one would expect from an Iluvatar album. Every song is strong, but the highlight of the disc is the final track "The Final Stroke". Clocking in at slightly over 12 minutes the song features everything that make Iluvatar great. The music is lush and absorbing, the vocals superb and the lyrics intelligent. The track is one of the band's best works. Other highlights include "Late Of Conscience", "Your Darkest Hour", "Haze" and the previously mentioned "Cracker". Although this is probably my least favorite of the three Iluvatar studio albums, I still really like it. For me Iluvatar's albums are essential purchases for people who like music similar to Marillion, mid-period Genesis, or IQ.

AFTER LISTENING TO THE HORRIBLE NEW DEEP PURPLE CD, I HAVE DECIDED TO CONCENTRATE MAINLY ON PROGRESSIVE BANDS. I DID THIS BECAUSE THIS CD REMINDED ME THAT ROCK IS PRETTY MUCH DEAD AND FOSSILIZED AND STAGNANT WHEN YOU MIX IN BLUES. ILUVATAR IS A BAND THAT RE-CREATED A SOUND THAT I SO ADMIRE THAT BORROWS FROM ROCK AND CLASSICAL MOTIFFS. THE END RESULT IS JOY TO THESE EARS. SADLY, THIS BAND HAS DISAPPEARED FROM THE SCENE. TOO BAD SOME OTHER BANDS DON'T JUST CALL IT A DAY.
