Action adventure ride in post-apocalyptic Colorado!,
By Sparkle Phillips "author - Finding Your Fortune" (Palo Alto, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Children - The Last Stand of the Fallen (Kindle Edition)
Mr. Craig's book is an incredible adventure book that any sci-fi fan should love. It has awesome monsters, people with special powers, unexpected twists and turns, epic battle scenes and more. If you wonder what post-apocalyptic Colorado might look like... here's a sneak peak into one potential dreadful future! Sci-fi fans... go for it. PS - worrying about the spelling is like riding a ride at Disneyland and worrying that there's a paint chip in the bucket that's carrying you up to the top for the ride of your life. Suspend disbelief, and you'll truly enjoy this ride!

Okay, right up front I have to admit I'm biased, as the author's father. But I'm an author myself, and I'd want an honest review, so I'll do my best. True, there are some typos, but not near as many as another reviewer suggests, and they were very easy for me to overlook once I got hooked on the story line and couldn't put the book down! Adam verbally paints his story's scenes and his character's traits with a graceful ease and depth of vision I haven't encountered in a long time. His description of the nuclear blast dream swept me away, for instance. The characters of Kane, Kyla, and Gate will live with me forever. The first couple chapters were a little slow to get me hooked, but from then on the book was an immensely enjoyable and imaginative read that I couldn't put down.

This book is a very well developed Science Fiction story. It is done by a new author who I can say has imagination. It is a great read for those of you who need a new Science Fiction story to read.
The plot is very good and had me hooked right from the beginning of the book. There is also really good character development, and setting development going on here. I really felt for some of the characters it was almost like I was in the story with them. Over all it is a great book that is well worth the time to read!

I noticed that everyone that left a positive comment has some sort of vested interest in the author... Friend, relative, girlfriend? If you really cared about a person that is putting something in the public eye, you might actually want to read the book and make some grammatical corrections. There really aren't any unexpected twists, no character development, childish dialogue (more so than is expected in a book with a bunch of children), and a completely anticlimactic conclusion that makes me sick that I endured all of the petty grammar mistakes.
I liked the idea of this book in the beginning, but since there is no development in the interaction of the Drae' Nocht, except that they "get smarter," the idea just kind of died and finishing this book was more of a masochistic obsession than for any sort of enjoyment. Reading this book is like deliberately putting yourself in a war of attrition against literacy and I am disappointed and offended that the author and Amazon allowed this book to be sold with so many errors.

I agree with the other reviews, the grammatical errors should not exist. They are easily found using most word processors. There is a difference between weather and whether.
Most of the plot was predictable, but oddly many key plot points were passed by with hardly a note. There were many unexplained points that would have made the read more interesting. Why did the hero live so long? How did the children come by their powers? Where did they come from? What else was in the lab and why wasn't it explored more thoroughly? It was barely mentioned after one visit. The inconsistencies of the character's personalities left me wondering if the author has very little life experience. How could the unconscious hero be nursed back to health but never washed? Very odd. Our long lived, hardened General begins baby talking and walking funny? This was all together a disappointment. |
