To my mind, the best Hardy Boys book of the last thirty-some years. And I think I've read them all (and rumor has it I wrote one or two.)

OMG...yup...cliff hanging and all...my two son's (13 and 10) were sucked in hook line and sinker. I am a Hardy Boys fan of old (way old) and my two sons indulged me in reading the Hardy Boys "Extreme" series...which was good...very good...but did not hold a candle to this first book of a trilogy. What started out as appeasing mom, has turned into a full blown thirst for these new and cutting edge techie/jock/intellectual brothers. Though The Children of the Lost was a bit "darker" than we have become accustomed to in the sleuthing brothers' adventures, it was just the right mix to keep us page turning with velocity! Frank and Joe have morphed over the years into characters who it actually is okay to admit your read about!
Excellent writing, solid character development and twisting and turning plot...with a "oh no you did not" end.... Plain and simple...give you and your kids a treat...get it!

Most of the trilogies for the Hardy Boys have been a BIG let down. But I decided to give them one more chance and read this book. And I am SO glad that I did! It was AWESOME!!!! One of my favorites!
I think that it should be 10+ for ages instead of 8+. |
