...just one of the best pointless tunes every made!!! it's billy thorpe for cryin out loud!! 'children of the sun'!! c'mon! how can you NOT love this tune??? every see the video...baaahahahaha! the song's great!

A staple of classic rock radio stations (and Classic Rewind on SiriusXM satellite radio), Billy Thorpe's 1979 classic, "Children of the Sun" has stood the test of time. A long song at almost seven minutes and opening with a minute and a half of random 70s synthesizer sounds and drum licks, the song revolves around a visit of friendly aliens (The Children of the Sun) and how it shook the world and how some people "make the journey of a 1000 lifetimes" with the Children of the Sun. (The cynic in me can't help thinking about the "To Serve Man" episode of "The Twilight Zone" but that's just me.) The song closes with various solos and a chanting of the song title.

Considering the fascination with space and alien life following Star Wars in 1977 and the pop culture when it was released, the song is an escapist product of its times. With a catchy hook and lyrics as well as a fun premise, "Children of the Sun" had the staying power to take it into the 21st century and to keep it going strong even now.

somewhere in the 80'?,the smell of weed fills the air as a dude relaxes in a recliner and this is jamming in a pair. of headphones. If this could be you it is a must have. Test of time review 3 out 5 stars.
