Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things/Undertake

The eerie little gem by Alan Ormsby and Bob Clark about the rising dead as well as some necrophilia. I thought it took a really long time to actually see the Living Dead, but the wise cracked dialog between the cast made the time fly. If you are looking for a good living dead movie to add to your collection that has no intelligent plot, yet just good zombie fun, then don't let this cheap, undderated, tongue-in-cheek flick pass you by!

I remember someone talking about this movie in high school, and the only thing I remember was the title (It's pretty hard to forget). For a B-Horror flick, this movie did a good job. The acting leaves a bit to be desired, and the plot isn't all that deep. But, once the zombies start crawling out, I couldn't help but to watch in utter silence, waiting to see what happens next. For anyone looking to laugh at some mediocre acting and still be on the edge of their seat, I'd recommend "Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things".

This is a classically bad movie, and even the best really bad movie only deserves three stars, tops -- it's right up there with the movies that Mystery Science Theatre (i.e. The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection - The Essentials (Manos, the Hands of Fate / Santa Claus Conquers the Martians)) roasts, John Waters' early work, and all of the Ed Wood Collection (The Ed Wood Box (Glen or Glenda / Jail Bait / Bride of the Monster / Plan 9 from Outer Space / Night of the Ghouls / The Haunted World of Ed Wood)). I have a good friend who also enjoys really bad movies, and he put me on to this one. The plot -- a hammy would-be film student hires a bunch of sarcastic, fellow students to trek with him down the bayou where he meddles in the occult powers of raising the dead. The result is that the dead are raised to roam the world and cannibalise the living. In this way it's a good pre-quel to Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead (Divimax Edition). Canadian, in colour, filmed sometime in the early or mid-70s.

If this isn't the worst, there's a second part to the double feature: "The Undertaker & His Pals", which reuses a familiar plot device that murdered or otherwise dead people's body parts are being served up to unsuspecting diners. In this case we have a trio of ninja motorcyclists who abduct, murder, then dismember the victim for specific limbs or other parts. The restaurant gets the missing parts and the funeral home gets the remains (and the funeral fees). Typical example is when "Miss LAMB" is murdered, and her LEGS missing, she ends up as the special of the day. Get it?

This is a great double-feature DVD deal, and a must for collectors of really bad horror and sci-fi flicks.
