3.0 out of 5 stars Best for Lutherans
I wish I had known that this book was written from a Lutheran perspective. While the information is solid and useful, the author constantly speaks of the genius of Luther as though he were Christ, and most of the vast resource list is also Lutheran-heavy.

This review is from: Children Sing His Praise: A Handbook for Children's Choir Directors (Paperback)
Whether you are an experienced choir director or a lay person, this book belongs in your reference library. In an age when we are in danger of losing much of our rich and wonderful musical heritage, this book offers clear, concise information.

The book starts with a detailed history of children's music, which is some of the best music ever written by the great masters. It offers sound advise on auditioning young voices, appropriate ranges for music, developmental milestones, expectations and how to's galore.

How to plan a year's worth of music, how to start a choir, how to run rehearsal, how to work with the monotone, how to encourage of vibrant music program in a church, how to incorporate instruments, how to accompany children, and much more.

This book upholds the standard of excellence that should be the aim of every children's choir director and gives you tools and methods to incorporate into your existing choral program. Though aimed primarily at church choir directors, there is invaluable information for any children's choir director.

The book is a treasure trove of miscellaneous information as well. When I need a quote on children's music, or historical information, this is the book I turn to.

Though I do not have them, there are also video tapes that accompany this book where some of the techniques are demonstrated with a children's choir by the collaberators of the book.
