Book Description

June 1, 1999
It is said that there are two kinds of people in the world: Those who swear by self-help books and those who swear at them. "Children of the Trees" is for both. You can either revel in the sometimes subtle, sometimes blatant satire, or embrace this mythical model of self-discovery. You may actively play along by doing "tree readings" of your friend, family, co-workers and classmates or passively follow the author and his frined as they discover the platitudes can become plateaus of wisdom.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Anyone who loves trees should not miss this opportunity to add a new dimension to that love by reading this light-hearted yet thought proving book. The tree description and the associated "famous" people generate instant comment. -- Mike Sears, Professor-Natural Resource Management, Pierce College

About the Author

Robert Sidney Mellette is not enlightened. He has no special insight into the human condition and he's certainly no expert on trees. If you believe in channeling, then you may use his book as proof of it. During two years on televisions's Xena: Warrior Princess, Robert created and wrote "The Xena Scrolls" for the official web site. The episode base of the site became the first story to crossover from the internet to television. Between speaking engagements for "Children of the Trees" Robert works on scripts for film and stage. He is presently filming his first indepent movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly imaginative, July 6, 1999

A brilliant spoof, or a serious typological study of the human psyche? A cautionary tale about believing your own b.s., or an uplifting exhortation to bond with nature? Read this book and decide for yourself--it's easily better than 99.99 percent of the volumes in the Self Help/New Age section.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun and thought provoking read. I recommed it highly., June 19, 1999

Looking for a gift for a friend. This book is perfect. Read it and then decide which tree best represents the characteristics of your friend. Write in the front To: my favorite Cypress, Willow or whatever you have decided. While you are reading to decide about your friend, decide about yourself at the same time. If you can't decide, have someone read the book and give you their best thoughts about which tree you come from. It is seldom one can find such a treat to give to someone you care about.
