1.0 out of 5 stars Limited view through "the eyes of author" is misleading, December 6, 1997

This review is from: Children of Turkey (Through the Eyes of Children) (Library Binding)
After reading this book we are left with images of not so developed parts of Turkey, where children are much less privileged, and some very different customs (than of those of the West) that only few follow. Not shown and mentioned are the images of modern Turkey where children live and function very much similar to their western counterparts. Hence the book lacks balance and gives a distorted view of the reality. People who do not know about Turkey will feel almost sorry about these children and view this modern country in a very different way than what it is. This opinion of mine is also shared by my 8-year old daughter who has visited Turkey when she was 4 and have seen it "through her own eyes". This book is like writing a book called "Children of USA" and portray only poverty stricken children in NY City slums and make it "interesting" by taking advantage of the sadness and intrigue induced to the reader.
