I think Childred of the Undead is one of the most entertaining and well written books that I've ever downloaded from Amazon. I didn't realize how many pages it was until I was well into the story. And now I can't wait to finish it. I wish I could call in sick tomorrow just to keep reading. It's that good.

If you're a fan of Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett, you'll love the zanyness of David Dvorkin.

Our story's protagonist, Jerry Morgenstern, is an angsty high-level executive at Piper's Pickled Peppers. When sun-worshipping zombies that are hooked on Piper's Pickled Peppers start popping up everywhere, he's understandably alarmed. What follows is sheer hilarity with an unlikely hero and his merry band consisting of a disaster-prone scientist, his 8-foot zombie girlfriend, Jerry's own high-maintenance girlfriend and a war against zombies, tentacles in the sewers that can break off into pod people, a giant screaming earth mother zombie, and a shady politician. What makes it so funny is the lack of panic and social disintegration from having zombies everywhere. The American public seems clueless, although they do stay indoors a great deal more. Television news never mentions the "Z" word and the social commentary is merciless and cutting. A great analogy to me of today's public that sits zombified in front of "Jersey Shores" and video games while ignoring the world events around them, although I don't know if that's the message Dvorkin was trying to convey. In any event, I laughed throughout the book and didn't put it down until I was through. Highly entertaining and highly recommended.

Not a frequent reader of zombie novels, I didn't expect to read Children of the Undead immediately after I bought it on the recommendation of a friend. But checking to be sure that the book had downloaded to my Kindle, I had read the first chapter before I paused. It's that kind of book. You just keep reading. Children of the Undead is engrossing--for its fast-moving story, for its wit and humor, for its sometimes biting political and social commentary, for its general intelligence. I highly recommend it.
