More About the Author

Growing up surrounded by the influence of science fiction, including Raiser's grandfather Henry Kunicki who grew up with famous physicist David Bohm, it was difficult not to create worlds beyond our own for Raiser.
Raiser's debut novel "The Family Bones" is a culmination of thriller, sci-fi and mystery. On the verge of movie rights, this book is popular among teens as well as adults.
Raiser is working on several novels soon to be released, and a children's line of books as well. Look out for the Pepper Fink series.
With the support of fellow well known authors, including P.S. Gifford and Linda S. Cowden (author of Grimmie) Raiser intends on making writing not just a part time hobby, but a full-time career.
Keep an eye out for this multi-talented award winning author for future hits.
Stranded: Stories from the edge of infinity... is a collection of Raiser's published short stories that have been compared to Twilight Zone, Monty Python, Douglas Adams, and...well...the utmost bizarre, and thought provoking.

I'm already hooked and can't wait for the next installment. Better than J Patterson's Maximum Ride series. The Children of Roen website isn't active (just checked) but I have it book marked.

I'm already on to Kimberly's other books!

Good start for the story. Can't wait to see how it ties to the real history of Roanoke Island. Should be pretty good.

I read the description page of the book, so I knew that it was only 47 pages. This is fine because I like short storie/novellas. I read the title so I knew it was part of a series. What I did not know was that it is not a book, it is not a story, it is the first few chapters of a story, in other words this is not a stand alone. I should have paid more attention to the part that said "Part 1, Book 1".

The scenes that I read in this excerpt are well written. The author produces good imagery. The chapters alternate between three characters 1. Kara who every month grows wings and 2. Daniel who starts out a promising MIT man who develops paralyzing obsessive compulsive disorder. 3. Michael, who used to date Kara before she started growing monthly wings. In the beginning the style of writing was off putting as the author told what the characters were thinking and doing, however by the end she was showing more than telling.

What you don't get in this story is any feel for the universe that is described in the book description. There is some foreshadowing of things not mentioned, but as the author calls this a book and not a "part", nothing is wrapped up. The "story" just ends abruptly with absolutely nothing explained.

Which brings me to another issue. This "book" has several formatting issues when it comes to chapters. This was even more jarring at the end of the book, when there is in the same font and size of the main story a line reading "Man upon a rock", it had that formatting. No capitals in most of the words as you would expect in a title, so I continued reading as if this was still the original story.

Having read Stranded I knew my next step would be this book. The last book I read in installments was The Green Mile and I remember waiting for the next one to come out. I was much more patient then... This is a book that is going to be hard to wait for. The decription of this book is right on and since it is in installments I won't give anything away. Is it ok to say James Patterson watch out because Kimberly Raiser just passed you by and has the inside lane to a best seller. This is the way a present day urban fantasy book should read.
(I can't wait to find out what is in store for Kara and Danny.)

I am HOOKED! No doubt about it. Almost screamed in deperation when I turned my Kindle page and there was no more.
This is an incredible story. One of those you "can't put the book down" story.
I see the other comments go back about a year so hopefully by this time I should have one or more installmetns sent to me.
I highly recommend this book.

(It completely left Patterson's Maximum series in the dust!!!!!)

As far as a beginning short story goes, it makes me want to read the next book. Although I didn't learn as much about the characters as I would have liked to, I did learn enough to make me care about them. I hope the next book gives more of a back story and insight as to what is going on with the kids.
