5.0 out of 5 stars If only......... April 13, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Dan Jackson is a 42 year old father of three who started writing kids' books about 3 months ago - a NEW author. But you'd never know it from the number of books he has produced - all of first quality.

Dan takes the stance of `I wish I were a shark' and through a brief line of print beneath a luminous photograph of a shark under water shares the various kinds of appearances he could look like. He then gives other reasons why being a shark would be fun - to scare people, to have many good looking water world friends - friends bigger and smaller than him - have people dive to photograph him, or watch him in an aquarium. He would have big shark teeth, a big tail, be able to `swim with the sharks', protect smaller sharks and teach them to swim. And on and on.

What this book does so beautifully is introduce the many aspects of sharks that are fun and beneficial and allows children to get to know animals from an animals point of view. The photographs are absolutely splendid in this book - but then the whole book is a winner! Grady Harp, April 14

5.0 out of 5 stars Did You Ever Wish You Were Someone Else? April 9, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
id you ever wish you were something other than who you are? I have, I wanted to be a monkey because I thought they were cute and funny. And, then I got to learn a little bit about them.

The author, Dan Jackson, tells us why he wishes he were a shark. And, while he is wishing to be a shark, we learn all about them. Sharks are big and have really big teeth. People seem to be afraid of them because they are so big. Along with all the wonderful things we learn about sharks there are really nice pictures. If you click on the picture, the picture gets larger, and you can see all the details very closely. Parents/teachers will have fun reading this book, and children will have fun looking at the pictures.

I really enjoyed this book and learning about sharks, I think you will, too.

This book is ideal to read to a very young child. Inside the book, the pictures are COLORFUL, LARGE and help the book tell the story! As an adult, I enjoyed viewing the large pictures and reading this book.
If you have kids, grand-kids or in any way work with young children, this is a great choice of a book to read to them!

Also, the formatting is superb, this book read wonderfully on my 7 inch tablet and also on my PC.

Highly recommend this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book October 4, 2014
By Carla
Format:Kindle Edition
It's a good book for a young child but has the same type of feel that I Wish I Were A Lion has. I just can't seem to get over the part where Fox and now this dolphin would rather be someone else over being themselves. I could understand if they were looking at these other animals as heroes. I did the same thing when I was growing up. However, the feel of the book doesn't make it seem that way. It doesn't leave anything in the end where they are ok with being themselves. Some kids pick up on stuff like that right away. Other's may not. From an adult view, that is the only thing that I feel is wrong with it.

Here are some thoughts from my 8 year old daughter about it.

"I like the look of the sharks. I like the pictures. The author is really good. I like the book. The book is awesome."

I like that I have a child who can read these books for me as well and give me her perspective.

As a mom, I rate this book a 4 out of 5.

I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review which you can find here: http://blessedmamasblurbs.blogspot.com/2014/10/i-wish-i-were-shark-ebook-review.html

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute Book November 7, 2014
By sally
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is a good book to read to my children. They love all the pictures and this book stays right on theme with "I wish I were a Shark". The pictures are great quality and the facts in this book are interesting and fun. My daughter was able to read this book all by herself and she is a younger reader (6) so that was also good. The sentences in the book worked well and really made it clear why the dolphin wished he were a shark.

This was one of the simpler of Dan Jackson's books I have read. My young reader was able to read it by herself, yet it was simple enough for my younger two to sit and read with us. They all loved all the great pictures of the sharks and the ways that being a shark would be "better" than a dolphin, such as have people dive to photograph him, be big, have a big tail and fast. By the time we were done reading my kids were pretending to be sharks and having a great time. Definitely a great book for younger kids and for introducing children to sharks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple, Easy Read with Awesome PIctures! October 7, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I have reviewed several book by Mr. Dan Jackson and have loved all of them.
This one is about why a child might wish they were a shark. My favorite thing about the book, is the pictures. They aren't animation pictures, they are like actual photographs. They are bright and vibrant and full of color. They grab the child's attention. My son, Charlie and I read this together. It is a very short read, and can be read in about 7-8 minutes. We made is a lot longer then that. We stopped and talked about all of the pictures. I would ask him, if he would want to be a shark, because they are big, or whatever reason was on the page. He really enjoyed the book. We both did. Charlie is 8 and had no problems at all reading the book. That makes it perfect for beginning readers.

More About the Author

My name is Dan Jackson. I am the father of two boys (aged 7 and 10 years) and of a baby girl. I am from Ontario, Canada originally.

I have been writing from an early age, even when I was a student at school I was always writing. At first, I only wrote part-time, until I made the decision to become a full-time writer.

Over the last two years, I have written many different genres of books: Children's books, How-to books, thrillers and many more.

For my first book, I got the inspiration for writing from my sons weird questions: "Say dad, what will happen if a dog wants to be a cat" or what if a horse wants to be a seahorse? The result of him asking me such profound questions, was books based upon such themes.

During the last two years I have been traveling. I have traveled throughout a great world that I think most of you, the authors, have explored. I must say...it is a crazy world out there!

This book is a story, based on not only my but also your journey as indie authors.

This book is dedicated to you, the author. It does not matter in which genre you are writing, you will probably experience (or you may already have) the same journey, that I have traveled and the same journey that my hero in this book is experiencing.

This Book is about inspiration and self-belief. Belief in yourself and belief in your book.

This book ends with a request to "conquer" the #1 Best Seller Mountain, of which

I have succeeded in doing. Some of my books were (and still are) hitting the number 1 Best Seller and I DO have some tips to offer.

By now, I am sure that you have probably come across or read, the vast amount of information there is out there about how to succeed as a best-selling author. Believe me, I know, there's lots!
