Book Description

"99¢ Special"

I'm Stephanie Pixley. I'm twelve years old, practically an adult. There was only a week left until school started and I still hadn't gone shopping for school clothes. When I finally did get to go, it was my worst nightmare! Some of the girls from The 'In' Crowd were there.
You know the type. I'm sure you go to school with them as well--the type that love to make your life unbearable because they think they're better than you are.

Jamie, Heather and Rachael are exactly that type--the type who enjoy making my life miserable! Read my story and see how I deal with them in The 'In' Crowd. When you're done, leave me a message in the reviews and let me know more about you and if you liked reading my story. It will encourage other kids to read it too, so they know we are not alone--but together, we can make a difference.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I have enjoyed writing this series because the stories evolved from things relating to my own children. I always love adding a touch of humor to my stories because that's how I am in real life.

Children enjoy this series because Stef is like any other kid they go to school with--so she seems real to them, like a very close friend.

Please write a review after you have read this story, or any of the others in the series. I enjoy hearing from my readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boy, can I relate!! December 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Stephanie Pixley, a twelve year old girl is starting 6th grade and like all 6th graders, she wants new clothes to start school in. She, however, doesn't just want any new clothes but the latest and greatest. Stef (as Stephanie is called) doesn't understand why she can't have them, but more than that, why the `in' girls make fun of her because she doesn't.

Boy, can I relate! As a child and then as a parent I have lived this scenario from two different perspectives, so I could really relate to Stef and her parents. The desire to be part of the `in' crowd is a situation all parents and their children deal with. In that respect, this is a very relatable book.

The twist to this story is one of the girls, Heather, who teases Stef about her clothes, has the tables turned when her father loses his job and she must return the "cool" clothes she bought for school. Stef feels badly for Heather and through her actions of forgiveness teaches Heather about Jesus' saving grace and that forgiveness is better than teasing.

The `In' Crowd is a fun quick read, even for the 9 - 12 set that teaches forgiveness and friendship without being preachy. With its realistic characters, relatable situations and age appropriate language, this book would make any young lady's (maybe not the boys) fun reading list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely story May 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I read this in one session over an evening. It is a lovely, simple story that provides a valuable lesson for young people. I am not religious, and this is basically a christian story, but it is refreshing.

Would be perfect for young people at a Sunday school class.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smoothly woven message without being preachy! March 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I got totally caught up in the In Crowd and am looking forward to future works. I found myself remembering the challenges of being that age and wanting so desperately to fit in. I loved the pace of the story and felt like I was on an escalator riding alongside these characters as their lives unfolded before me. I thought both the family dynamics and the friendships were believable and appropriate. I was greatly impressed with the presentation of unforgivenesss as a destructive acid and simply loved every nuance of the central character.

5.0 out of 5 stars A inspirational and gripping story February 28, 2013
By LunaCat
Format:Kindle Edition
Once I got into this story I had trouble stopping reading it; I wanted to know what happens next. This book also illustrates the undoubted power of prayer.
I will certainly be reading the sequel to this book, "On My Own (Life With Stef)".

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing story for teens February 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
The in crowd shows the ambient of a traditional school. It shows a little bit of bullying many girls and boys face in school even in high school. Stef, the main character tries to be in the crowd. She thinks buying expensive clothes will help her to be accepted by the classy group of girls. Susset sticks straight on the age rank writing, I mean she manage accurately her words, even the dialogues. Her writing embraced me since the first sentence and keep me reading more. I was able to imagine every place, every situation and the scene Stef was in...
