Book Description

Immerse your child in the sweet and gentle world of teddy bears with three complete picture books.  Each of these bedtime stories is fully illustrated with simple and cheerful colored pencil illustrations of teddy bear families, giving the whimsical effect of a completed coloring book. Illustrations are geared toward color e-readers such as the Kindle Fire. The following titles are featured:

The Flag Keeper - Elizabeth may be a little bear, but she treats the American flag with big respect. After Dad leaves for a trip, Elizabeth pledges to raise the flag all by herself and follow all of the flag etiquette rules that her father has taught her. However, her dad never told her what to do if the flag gets dirty or the police show up. Teaches children about U.S. flag etiquette through a fiction story, flag facts, activity idea, and discussion questions. For ages 4-9. Also available in paperback and endorsed by directors of the national VFW and American Legion Posts.

Victoria Rose and the Big Bad Noise - Victoria loves her home and family, but boy does she hate the noises that invade her daily life. Her imagination transforms the blender into a growling bear, the vacuum cleaner into a lion and the lawnmower into a spaceship filled with monsters. With the help of a CD player, she decides that maybe a nasty noise like the blender is just music that doesn't know how to sing. This sweet bedtime story can help young children learn that household noises aren't so scary after all. For ages 3 and up.

Sticker Shoes - When Jenny gets a sticker stuck to her shoe, she has a new invention - Sticker Shoes! She covers her sneakers with shiny sparkling stickers and runs outside to try out her beautiful shoes. Unfortunately, Sticker Shoes aren't meant for rough and tumble play in the dirt and her invention doesn't last. Jenny makes her way through her closet, trying on old boots, dress-up shoes and slippers in her hunt for the perfect Sticker Shoe. Teaches young children about problem-solving and taking the first early "steps" toward independence. For ages 3 and up.

Editorial Reviews

Review

The Flag Keeper:
I would encourage all true patriots with children to purchase a copy to start their "little patriots" off on the right foot.
-- Steve Van Buskirk, Director of Programs, VFW National Headquarters

A wonderful story about Elizabeth, who through life's day-to-day adventures learns how to care for and display the flag. An excellent read!
-- Mike Buss, Deputy Director, Americanism, American Legion National Headquarters

Reading The Flag Keeper is a terrific way for parents and kids to spend time together and enhance their celebration of the Fourth of July. It helps parents to keep their children reading and learning in the summer months, and moms and dads will even learn something themselves. The book can also be pulled out at other times of year, such as Columbus Day, Veterans Day, and Flag Day.
-- Staten Island Family

Victoria Rose and the Big Bad Noise:
My daughter seemed to like the drawings. The illustrations really caught her eye and captured her attention-she pointed out each of them use the color yellow. I loved the idea of the book-the idea of connecting the scary sounds with sounds that the child finds safe and happy.
-- Yogi Mommy Writes it Down

Audiobook Review:
A musical introduction played on a toy piano sets the tone for these three children's stories about flags, big noises, and creativity. Narrator Bill Russell is especially articulate, slowing his pace when explaining flag terminology in the story about Elizabeth, who decides to take over flag duties in her father's absence.

From the Author

Dear Parents, I normally write novels for adults and teens, however, my family inspired me to try my hand at writing a few picture books. My father, who has always enjoyed drawing pictures as a hobby, illustrated my stories as Christmas gifts for the children in our lives. He used his favorite technique, colored pencil, in a style that gives the effect of a completed coloring book. Much to my surprise, the illustrations depicted teddy bears and they reminded me of the simple drawings in the bear books by Frank Asch. I had envisioned my characters as humans, but I liked his idea much better. All of the children who received the handmade books loved the stories and the simple but vivid illustrations of teddy bears so much that I decided to publish them in e-book format. This way, my adult readers could have an inexpensive way to share the stories with their children. I hope your family enjoys the books as much as my family enjoyed creating them. Stacy Juba

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 wonderful children's stories January 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Three wonderful stories written for children to learn about flag etiquette, scary noises, and imagination. All three stories are written in such a way to help children understand what the book is trying to explain. Learn how to properly care for the American flag. Understand that not all noises are bad. Use your imagination to create beautiful shoes. I loved that the illustrations are done by the author's father and that he used color pencils to draw them! In today's high tech, digital, computerized world, it's nice to see something so simply drawn by hand for everyone to enjoy. I recommend this bundle to everyone out there who want to teach their children to respect the flag, find the music in noises, and use their imaginations to create anything.

This is such a cute collection of stories. Being a fan of Stacy Juba's adult books, I had already read the first two children's books she wrote The Flag Keeper and Victoria Rose and the Big Bad Noise
Both are charming and educational. They are included in this bundle of 3 books. Here are the reviews I wrote for them:

The Flag Keeper:
This book is absolutely adorable.
Elizabeth, a little brown bear, loves helping her father raising and lowering their flag every day -- she is his 'Flag Keeper'. When he is due to go on a trip for 3 days, Elizabeth asks is she can raise and lower the flag herself in his absence. He says she should wait for him to return. Wanting to prove to her father that she is capable of raising the flag on her own, Elizabeth attempts to do so, and things go slightly wrong. After a couple of attempts, she is overjoyed when she manages to raise the flag correctly on her own.
This book is fun to read, and the illustrations are delightful. I'm sure children will love the characters. The book is also educational as it teaches how and when a flag should be raised and lowered, as well as many other aspects of flag etiquette. This would make a great gift for a young child, and it's a great educational tool for older children, teaching them all about the American flag.
There's an interesting list at the end of the book of dos and don'ts with regard to the flag. The author has also added discussion questions at the end of the book, and activity suggestions.

Victoria Rose and The Big Bad Noise:
This lovely little story would make a great gift for children. Victoria Rose is scared of the noise the blender, the vacuum cleaner and the lawnmower make, but soon realises that her imagination has been running away with her. This book is perfect for teaching young children that loud noises around the home are not as scary as they seem. The pictures are very sweet and illustrate the story perfectly.

Here's my review of the last story in the bundle, Sticker Shoes:
In this story, the main character, Jenny, finds that decorating her shoes with stickers is a fun thing to do. It's just such a typical thing that a child would decide to do, and I'm sure that there will be lots of children decorating their feet and shoes with stickers after reading this story! As with the other two stories in the collection, the beautiful, simple, illustrations present the story almost through the eyes of a child. I think children will love and be inspired by the drawings as well as the words.

I would highly recommend this collection as fun and educational for young children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun read! January 28, 2012
By C.Riz
Format:Kindle Edition
These 3 books with their cute teddy bear characters were a fun read. In "The Flag Keeper" Elizabeth taught myself and both of my boys (age 6 and 7) about flag etiquette (wow, there was a lot I didn't know about flags!). In "Victoria Rose and the Big Bad Noise", Victoria taught us that not all noise is scary and actually has a purpose and can be fun. In "Sticker Shoes" Jenny uses her imagination and creativity to create something new. All three books were entertaining and full of easy to understand life lessons for kids.
