This is the only Pete Seeger CD we have, so I can't compare it to other ones, but I can assure you that this one is GREAT! It's got a lot of songs, some familiar, some not, some short, some long, all delightful. Pete's banter with the audience is gently humorous, very engaging and frames the songs nicely. This isn't exactly a "lullaby" CD and yet my son (almost 3) loves, loves, loves to fall asleep to this at night. I think he finds Pete's talking and singing very comforting -- perhaps because this is a live CD, the experience of listening to it is more human and intimate than it would be with a studio recording. Another thing that makes this CD appealing to children is that Pete makes funny (and not irritating) animal noises, vehicle noises (depending on the song) and other kinds of noises as well -- he uses sound like a prop, making each song vivid for his listeners.Enjoy!

introduced me to music, folk music, and Pete Seeger. I've loved Pete my entire life and am very excited to see his music is being exposed to an entire new audience that has never heard of him.
While others complain about the 'quality' of the recording (mostly because of noise from children) I find it to be one of this album's greatest charms. You get a real feel for Seeger as a storyteller. My sister and I spent hours listening to this recording and signing right along. I've introduced this recording to an entire new generation in my own family...and guess what? We've got children sitting down next to the CD player signing right along with Pete! I love this CD, and would recommend it to anyone. Thank you, Pete Seeger, for a great recording that I've enjoyed since 1963.

A Pete Seeger concert is a special moment in time. This recording does awonderful job capturing such a moment at NYC's Town Hall 1962.Here we find Pete Seeger at his best, playing songs for children and theiradults friends. . The charm of Seeger is that he entertains and teaches atthe same time. Whether he's chopping wood on stage, singing about frogs(Foolish Frog ) or monsters (Abiyoyo ) Pete is great .Like a child ,Seegeris honest, sincere and real. In a world that offers very little in the way of recorded music for children Pete at Town Hall is a must have recording for children of all ages.

Pete Seeger's voice is warm and pleasing for kids. Album includes a raft of classic American folk tunes, the ones I sing to myself and also use to lull the kids to sleep.

Pete was indeed, great in live performance...,

I saw Pete three times in the 1960's, all after this album was recorded, and all were primarily "adult audience" shows at the height of the fervor over civil rights. However, no Seeger concert went on without a kids' song or three, and when I picked this CD up in a bargain bin the other day, it brought back fond memories of watching him sing "Here's to Chesire, Here's to Cheese" and "Abiyoyo" live. His joy in performing was infectious, and he never let the audience off the hook if the song could be enhanced by their participation. Still, the songs mainly belong to a fading era, as Pete himself tells this NYC audience of children, in which "Families had to make their own music, and make up their own stories to entertain themselves." I have four grandchildren, ages two to eight, and I doubt they would be interested in even half of the concert bill on this CD. Kids' folk songs, whether traditional or written by Woody Guthrie in the 1940's, seem pretty lame when compared to "Hannah Montana" and "High School Musical" which are aimed at teens yet captivate even a much younger audience. If Pete were capable of putting on another concert like this one, from 1962, I'd sure take my grandkids to see him, but the recorded version of that experience just isn't as powerful as seeing it live. I agree with the reviewers who noted that the audience noise destroys some of the songs. I imagine they were added to lengthen the CD from the LP version. As a keepsake of the Pete Seeger experience from the '60's, this is worth owning. Today's kids, however, are so saturated in media, don't expect them to be as impressed as you might wish them to be.

Pete Seeger,

I listened to this album as a kid and loved it. I thought it might be too low-tech for my kids (ages 6 and 3), who are used to more modern media, but they love to hear Pete Seeger tell his stories and sing his songs with just a banjo or harmonica. We listen to it in the car, and the whole family sits quietly listening to every word and note.

Stands the test of time beautifully,

Growing up in NYC in the 70's I was fortunate enough to sit at Pete Seeger's feet more than once as he sang to all of us children on board The Clearwater. Naturally I have nostalgic feelings for his music because those were such wonderful memories. It's with great delight that I now listen to his music with my toddler son and realize that it really is as good as I remember it to be. This is a fun, happy CD and wonderful for children (and adults!) of all ages.

This is the best album I've heard for young kids, by a true American icon. Pete sings engaging songs about cars & boats; work-songs about cowboys, canals, & railroads; inter-active songs, & international songs. My favorite is how he uses music to defeat the giant in "Abi Yoyo", but of course it's always a good idea to "Be Kind to your Parents" too, and he ends with the patriotic "This Land is Your Land". If you have young kids, buy this album.
