Book Description

July 5, 1994
Finely detailed illustrations from rare issues depict youngsters in hundreds of fashionable outfits: the tunic-styled chemise russe, unfitted pleated dresses, low-waisted smocks worn by both sexes, sailor suits, and much more — all beautifully rendered and captioned.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is what your mothers would put you in back then, April 20, 2007

Funny thing, all I could think when I was reading through this was 'Hey Kids, if you think what your mothers are trying to put you in now stinks, this is what they would be putting you in back then'.

Considering what kids are wearing today, back then looks pretty good.

My only problem is this book does not show what work cloths of the time were like. Nor does it show ordinary cloths. Just the Sunday best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for doll makers ans costumers, March 7, 2010
This review is from: Children's Fashions, 1860-1912: 1,065 Costume Designs from "La Mode Illustree" (Paperback)
I have owned this book for a number of years. As I sew for dolls this is quite a go-to book for young child and thus doll clothing. It is arranged by years of publication of the fashion plates so as to give a true idea of childhood fashion of each era. Love it.
