Helpful Gluten Free DVD, December 13, 2008
This review is from: Children's Hospital Boston, Family Health Education Series: Raising Your Celiac Child- Guidelines for a Gluten-Free Life (DVD)
I was totally overwhelmed when my 2-year old was first diagnosed with celiac. I'd never heard of the disease before. The dvd helped me not only understand what it's like to live gluten free but also to see normal people doing every day things as they pertain to celiac. I especially like being able to watch just the part I'm interested in at the moment - like shopping or eating out - without having to watch the entire dvd. I would highly recommend it especially for newly diagnosed parents or even kids who want to know they're not alone.

As a parent of two children with celiac diseae, I found this Children's Hospital Boston - Raising Your Celiac Child DVD to be very informative. The DVD is organized in modules which allows to view sections on topics that are relevant to your current situation. The modules cover such topics as what is celiac disease and diet basics as well as cooking, shopping, school and eating out. For those new to the diet, it covers a wide breath of topics in one organized place. These are real stories. Children, teenagers, parents and experts share their knowledge and emotion. You feel a real connection to these people as they face the challenges of celiac disease and enjoy life on the gluten free diet. A valuable resource on celaic disease.

Comprehensive guide to the GF lifestyle, October 27, 2008
This review is from: Children's Hospital Boston, Family Health Education Series: Raising Your Celiac Child- Guidelines for a Gluten-Free Life (DVD)
What's most impressive about this DVD is how completely it covers what celiac patients and their families need to do to adjust to the gluten-free lifestyle. It provides a wealth of sound advice about how to organize your kitchen, shop for food, work with schools, dine out and travel while maintaining the GF diet. It also talks about how to deal with the emotional adjustment of adapting to the diet. Because it's a DVD, family members can share and discuss the information together. In that way, it's more effective than any book. It's narrated by a teen who has managed the GF diet effectively, and whose success can inspire younger children as well as other teens. Because it was produced by Children's Hospital Boston, one of the pre-eminent hospitals for children with celiac disease, the DVD's advice is medically sound. Bottom line: A very efficient way for families to learn a huge amount of accurate information about living the gluten-free lifestyle safely and comfortably.
