1.0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment
I bought this book after reading other books on reincarnation and saw all the 5 star ratings so I thought it would be good. I was wrong. This book tells interesting stories of the author's children's supposed accounts of past lives and even her own. They all seem to be from a distant time, which is unlike other books I've read on the subject.

But what is...

Carol Bowman begins by relating the experiences she had with her own young son, who was hysterically afraid of loud noises, to introduce the reader to typical experiences that can happen before children are born, but to which they are reacting in this life.

The primary focus of this book is on helping children to overcome their phobias, especially when traditional psychotherapy fails to uncover a cause or solution. The book is aimed both toward parents of children with phobias, and also just toward parents generally.

The only reason I am giving the book four stars, instead of five, is that I was already a believer in reincarnation and was looking for a book relating many, many cases of reincarnation.

While the book does present a reasonable number of cases, these are not the books primary focus. The primary focus is toward parents who may never before have considered the possiblility of reincarnation. The book spends a great deal of time discussing research by other eminent researchers (an EXCELLENT summary, by the way, for further reading), and giving guidelines toward how to tell the difference between which memories may be from past lives, vs. made-up fanatasies on the part of the child. If you are a parent, and your child has any unexplained exceptional talents, odd behaviors, or phobias, this book is for you. If, like me, you already believe in reincarnation, and you are looking for more actual cases to read about, I suggest you skip this book and go directly to Carols second book, Return From Heaven, which is even better than this excellent book (and also includes her experiences with her own children).

Carol is perhaps the worlds current leading expert on this subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding. Easy to read. An absolute Delight!, August 12, 1999
By A Customer
Ms. Bowman has done us all a tremendous service in taking time to research and write this book. She suggests that she is not an author, yet her organization and writing skills are superb. The book is organized into two main sections. Each section is broken down into bite-size sub-sections of a few pages.

Section #I is biographical in nature. She tells how she became interested in this topic and how she researched the topic. She shares with the reader her trials, tribulations as well as her successes. After reading this section I felt that here is someone just like me going down the crooks, crevices and turns of the research just the way I probably would have done it.

Section #II is more of a do-it-yourself section for parents who are interested in using this technique for therapeutic purposes for their children.

As a scientist, with a Ph.D. in Chemistry and Physics, I am more interested in Section #1. I am interested in evidence of past lives. Carol Bowman has given me weighty evidence directly and pointed me in the right direction of more evidence. She has generous bibliography and reference sections.

Read this book and you will be as enthused as I am!

Why do I have this feeling that Carol was meant to write this book?

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking, mind blowing and educational., February 8, 1999

This review is from: Children's Past Lives: How Past Life Memories Affect Your Child (Hardcover)
This book was the first book on past life regressions I had read. After completing this book I was compelled to read others on regression. Carol's book is so full and complete, and answered so many questions. Her coverage of the topic of children's past lives was comprehensive. She seemed able to anticipate questions of the reader and follow through with the answers. I found her book almost impossible to put down. The ideas of children being helped through past life regressions is inspiring and leaves me hopeful. I feel that this book has opened up a whole place of exploration in my life. I would like to thank Carol for writing this book and writing it so well. I would encourage others to read it and explore this new world too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reincarnation, August 26, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Truth or myth. My husband died recently and I have been reading alot about reincarnation. This book appealed to me because I have often wondered about family and friends coming back to live another life.

I have been a christian most of my life, I was saved at the age of 12. I never really wondered until after my children were born. Although most Christians make fun of reincarnation I have found that it has increased my faith in God and Jesus and helped me to better understand His word.

My Uncle had been like a father to me, he and my aunt were always there for me. My father never worked a day if he could help it. My mother was chronically depressed. We lived with this Aunt and Uncle most of my childhood.

In 1973 my uncle died at 53 of heart failure. I had 2 children by then and did not want any more. Surprisingly, even though I was on the pill, I got pregnant at the end of 1975. In April of 1976 I gave birth to a little girl.

This child has been there for me at every trouble I have had, esspecially the death of my husband. She has been my rock and my staunch ally throughout all of her life. If I have a need she is there. My other children are very like her, in that I only have to ask and they are there for me. All are very supportive. But she seems to find my needs before I do.

But when she was small, only 2 years old, she would cry every time I mentioned my Uncle's name, and when we went to the cemetary she became very upset. I wish I had read this book at that time. I would have asked her questions.

When I ask her now she remembers crying, she says she felt at that time that she knew him. Now she is 27 and says she doesn't feel like that now.

This book opens up alot of questions and I found it an amazing record that is very well written. If you are interested in this phenomona I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything it CLAIMS to be!!!, April 11, 2001
By

I have to disagree with "A Reader" from New Jersey. Children's Past Lives is not a book about Past Life Regression Experiences (by means of hypnosis) and neither does it claim to be. Many children remember their past lives spontaneously, without hypnosis or prompting, and this book illustrates the many cases of this "remembrance" in our society, that are so often brushed off and under the carpet as childish ramblings, imagination and stories.

Children are not born with any real perception of time as we experience it in everyday life - we have constructed our lives and routines around this man-made concept for as long as we remember....but to children, things that happened months ago, can feel like just the other day, things that happened to them "before" they arrived here in their "new" family, are also surface memories that they have full access to, and Children's Past Lives does an excellent job of illustrating this point.

These memories CAN and DO happen naturally to all young children, all over the world, regardless of their parent's beliefs. They can happen any time and to any young child (or adult of course), but parents often don't notice, because they are not aware that these possibilities even exist, let alone how to deal with them even if they did.

Children's Past Lives is about one such mothers journey of discovery - through learning about her own childrens "lives" and witnessing the healing that took place and the phobias disappear in her own children, once their memories had been recognised and released - Carol Bowman set out on a mission to make this knowledge and "evidence" more available to the public; to find out as much as she could about the subject for herself, then share every inch and example of this to parents out there with the same questions she once had.

I personally think that this book WAS a ground-breaking book, on an area not widely discovered, researched or even really considered in Western society. I think the cases she brings forward and the ancient texts and research that she includes alongside her cases to explain her thoughts and opinions, shows that she done extensive research and a lot of self discovering, along the way.

This book is worth every star I've given it - and then some :o)

5.0 out of 5 stars This book makes sense !, April 6, 2005

Carol helps people make sense of how past life issues can affect the presnt life. She illustrates quite clearly how her son was affected by a past life death in the Civil War, how her daughter was affected by a past life death in a house fire, and how she was affected in several lives with a respiratory issue. The stories that are used in the book captivated me and got me to look further into my own lives. I'd recommend this book to anyone!

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressing, May 29, 2000
By

What a day and time we live in. Where children can be themselves and share what they see and feel without being told to shush. I think Carol Bowmans book shares some wonderful stories not only of childrens past lives, but opens out minds that have been sealed shut over the many years. Carols book discusses fears she saw in her own children, loud noises, strange eczema on her sons hand...the fear and trauma of both these, were relieved with a regression therapy. I have always found this topic intriguing, so I enjoyed the many cases shared in this book. I thouroughly enjoyed the fact that Carol took the reader from the trauma the child was suffering, to the regression, what was there, what the child spoke of, their fears as well as their loves in the past life, and then went on to tell how the child healed after the therapy. Nice job. As I read the book I noticed how elegantly she touched on all subject matter of each case. The only reason I didn't rate this a 5 star,

was I purchased the paperback, and the type was very small. Part of the way through the book I actually thought about ordering the hardcover edition for better print. If you have not bought this book yet, and your eyes are any less than 20/20, get the hardcover, the book is worth the few extra dollars! I felt I bought alot of knowledge and enjoyment for my $ I would not of minded forking out the extra for easier reading text.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Strong Case for Reincarnation, March 14, 2006
I was in the midst of reading a new mystery by a treasured author when this book fell into my hands. I became so engrossed that I forgot about the murder mystery.

Here are stories of children, some at the toddler stage, speaking in foreign languages, exhibiting advanced artistic abilities, and using adult terminology specifically related to the past life circumstances they are describing.

Carol Bowman's relaxed narrative style turns an important subject into an enjoyable read. The reader feels drawn in to the stories of the children, and the author's own experiences of past lives.

This book makes a very strong case for the reality of reincarnation. And it gives examples of how an acknowledgement of past-life experiences can be a stepping stone to inner and outer healing. I give it my highest recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars The wisdom to let children lead, April 7, 2005
Carol Bowman has written the kind of easy to read book on children's reincarnational memories I wish could have been available when my parents were baffled by my own babblings and behavior as a child! I regret now that I don't have a record of what I said and did in my early years, but she is teaching us how to understand, guide, and keep records for our children now, and in the future. This is one area where we should trust children to give us a better understanding of reincarnation, and she is to be commended for recognizing, and making it her life's work, to let the children lead.
