This is great music for children, and adults won't go bonkers while they are listening. My children grew up on this when only records were available. Their memories of it are good enought to want their children to have the CD. The music is great for calming children down yet not putting them to sleep. It can be played over and over again, just as children love to do.

I had this as a record when I was growing up. I have had this cd on my wishlist for years. I finally found a digitally remastered version available on Amazon. It arrived yesterday and I sang along happily with all the songs I remembered. My daughter stopped what she was doing to just stand and listen to "Billy Boy"...now she is learning all the fun songs I grew up with. They are children's songs, but it is not just a kids' album. Ed McCurdy is similar to Pete Seeger. I prefer Ed's voice. The banjo playing really adds life to the songs.

my children grew up with this vinyl record. i am so happy it is available on cd. robust baritone voice, straight forward presentation of classic folk songs. every teacher, every family should own this and listen to it!

My parents bought this album for me and my two sisters when I was a child and we spent many hours listening to it and memorizing every song. It quickly became our favorite. I have bought lots of music for my two young sons, but I haven't found any albums as likable as this one! The tunes on this album are catchy and sung with wonderful acoustical accompaniment. One simply cannot help but sing along. I believe this album is a must for anyone with young children.

My father bought this album for my siblings and me over 30 years ago. I played it hundreds of times, and though I have not played it in years, these beautiful, happy songs are all still memorized. You would do your children a great service by buying this for them

This album was given to me as a gift in about 1960, and it has always held a special place in my musical heart. The songs are often well-known (but becoming less so) standards, sung with gusto and affection by Ed McCurdy, backed up by his guitar and wonderful banjo playing. I am ecstatic that this long-lost album is now available on CD. Most of my friends have heard me sing "Jack the Sailor" over the years. Now this glorious musical heritage can be passed on into the 21st century.

I too had ( and still have ) this on vinyl. But a CD on backup is vital as my wife is not big on the record player and I now have a duaghter. This should be enforced listening for every American child ! A truly great collection.
