Book Description

You met her in "Childs' Proof," when she was a frustrated secretary, finding her sea legs in the world of private investigations. Now as fall sets in over the quiet town of Brenton, Illinois, Vic receives the exciting news, from her sweet and sexy Detective, that she will be accompanying him "down home," to a Varner family wedding. The fun starts sooner than anticipated though, when someone breaks into her apartment. She quickly learns she may be the new target of a local sicko. She thinks the trip to New Orleans can't come soon enough. Surely the weirdo won't follow her there. Well, at least not on the same plane.

Never one to stay out of trouble and always in training, follow Victoria Childs, P.I., on her latest adventure, down on the bayou! You will laugh, cry, and make some other interesting noises while you're reading Neeley Bratcher's exciting sequel to "Childs' Proof", "CHILDS ABDUCTION!"

**DANGER DANGER - This book contains adult material. There are bad words (not excessive), sex (again, not excessive), and adult humor. If any of these things offends you, please, just move on and don't read this book. I don't like to offend, especially if it means bad reviews. But, if you're looking for a lighthearted read with some bad language, some sex, and some giggles, read on! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars More Please? November 23, 2012

I was in love with Varner in her first book, but now the man has brothers? And grrr, what brothers! I was taken away with Childs' Abduction. It has some intense moments that will make your stomach flip-flop as well as the laughs that we've come to expect from a Neeley Bratcher novel. I recommend this one as much as the first!

5.0 out of 5 stars What's better than New Orleans and a good looking man?? November 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Victoria Childs is a PI. She used to be an assistant until her boss tried to kill her and her new boyfriend. Well, now she is back and not sure where life is taking her. That is until her on/off/on again/ off again boyfriend comes walking back in and asks her to go to New Orleans to meet his family. WOW, not expecting that, she agrees to get away from a stalker. That should take care of that problem, right?! Wrong, now she doesn't know what she is going to do or how it all might end but she is afraid that she never got to tell that Hunky man how she really feels!

Will she escape the mad man or will his "princess" kill her before he has a chance? You have to pick up this newest release from Neeley Bratcher! It is a suspenseful thriller that will keep you glued to the edge of your chair until the last word and then leave you wanting more! You won't be disappointed!

I like strong heroines that are both no-nonsense and independent.
For half of `Childs Abduction,' by Neeley Bratcher, I got just that. What did I get for the other half of the book? I still haven't figured that out.
The story is the second in a series - I haven't read the first and wasn't lost - about Victoria Childs, or Vic as she's known to her friends.
Vic is dating a police officer named Jason - who we find out at the beginning of the book has been AWOL for the past two weeks. Vic feigns anger but immediately gets over it because Jason invites her to go meet his family in New Orleans, so that automatically means it's okay that he treated her like dirt because he's got a great body and he rubs it against her.
Vic jumps at the chance, where she is immediately accepted by his family and makes snotty with his ex-wife.
In short order, Jason's niece is kidnapped by his deranged ex-best friend (who slept with his wife). Vic trades herself for the little girl - and that's where the story really begins.
What I find interesting about the book is that Vic was ridiculously strong when being kidnapped by two sociopaths - but ridiculously weak in just about every other instance of her relationship.
We were supposed to believe this was a tough woman - which she was much of the time - but then she did some ridiculously co-dependent things.
First off, the cooing and cuddling and whispered dialogue between the main duo is forced a lot of the time. When Bratcher lets the conversation flow from a natural point, the dialogue is engrossing. When she tries to force cuteness, it fades.
Still, I really liked Vic and Jason and was happily entrenched in the story - which has a soap opera twist - when something so jarring happened that it knocked me out of the narrative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read September 30, 2014

This book was just as hilarious as the first one.The story was dramatic, suspenseful, and had just the right amount of humor. All the characters were well-written and entertaining. It was fun to meet Varner's family. I love Vic and Varner and hope the author will continue their story through many more books. I'd like to see them as a solid couple rather than the on and off relationship they had in this book. They work well together and would make a dynamic team for future books.

I really liked the first book on this series, but this one blew me away! It made me laugh and cry, parts were heartbreaking. I couldn't put it down, read it cover to cover. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Great book - lots of action, mystery, and laugh out loud funny and lots of snickering. Ms. Bratcher has her main characters super beautiful (which usually irritates me no end) but somehow these people are humble and very believable. There are some sex but not too much for me. Some editorial mistakes but not overwhelming. I liked this book that I've already bought her first book. My ultimate praise for Ms. Bratcher.

From the Author: Vic receives the exciting news, from her sweet and sexy Detective Jason, that she will be accompanying him "down home," to a Varner family wedding. The fun starts sooner than anticipated though, when someone breaks into her apartment. She quickly learns she may be the new target of a local sicko. She thinks the trip to New Orleans can't come soon enough.

From Me: I laughed, I cried, I cussed. What a fun frustrating roller coaster read. There are so many handsome J. Varner's in the book it's hard to keep them all straight and four year old Melanie will totally melt your heart. Vic is a strong woman and does not bow down to anyone at anytime who loves just as passionately and I totally love her. In the event you do not know me, I generally dislike most of the females in books I read. Vic is a great gal and I cannot wait to read Neeley Bratcher's next Victoria Child's book. CAN.NOT.WAIT.

P.S. I read both Victoria Childs novels in two days. They are seriously great books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, fast reading adventure
Good read, well written a bit predictable. Could have used a bit more suspense, it was too easy to figure out what would happen next, but enjoyable nonetheless.

More About the Author

Neeley Bratcher has been called a "comic genius" by her unbelievably intelligent mother! She has been called "Central Illinois' answer to Janet Evanovich" by a completely imaginary person! And her husband says, "I'm sure she's great!" (He doesn't read).

There have been no awards yet, unless you count the bathroom-mirror Oscar she got last night for Best Adapted Screenplay. She does, however, expect to win a Tony for her musical adaptation of the show "America's Funniest Home Videos." It's a series of random musical numbers, mostly 80's music, and a bunch of old people falling down, some farting babies, and a group of men getting kicked in the cojones.

She anxiously awaits feedback, good or bad, but any bad comments must be submitted on a fine, linen napkin and they have to smell like a very nice cologne.

Honestly, I try to keep things funny and light, with a hint of suspense, and an even bigger hint of some darn good nookie! Please feel free to like me on Facebook as I do not have a website yet.

Happiness is a great gift! If I can spread mine around a bit, then I've done my job!
