Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-K—There is no shortage of published collections of prayers for children, but even in such a crowded field, this one stands out. Simple meditations, both familiar and less well known, are presented along with warmhearted illustrations for the purpose of exposing children to the spiritual benefits of prayer. The well-chosen selections begin at the start of the day and follow different youngsters and their families through school, meals, and other typical pursuits, offering prayers of blessing, thanksgiving, or praise suited to each endeavor. The pencil, watercolor, and oil-wash artwork skillfully depicts the charismatic characters, who hale from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and live in both city and rural settings. The detailed illustrations provide numerous realistic entry points for readers to identify with the highlighted activities and the associated spiritual feelings they may evoke. The offerings contain attribution when possible, and an author's note explains why some do not. Libraries with a need to update their 200s section will find this a solid choice.—Lisa Egly Lehmuller, St. Patrick's Catholic School, Charlotte, NC

This book was a gift and it sat on a shelf the first two years of my children's life. Since then I have read it regularly and now the children can recite many of the prayers themselves as four (4 yo) year olds.

I like that book has long prayers and short prayers -- prayers about meal time, bed time, and other times. Reading this book has enabled the children to contribute other prayers at meal time (besides "We love our bread, we Love our butter, we love each other!). For example, "For every cup and plateful, dear God make us truly grateful."

I think this book is especially well suited to younger children who are just grasping the concept of God.

The art work is well done and my children enjoy looking at the pictures in it while I read to them. The binding is sturdy as well and has held up to regular reading.

The book can be read and appreciated in families of most religions including Hindus, Christians, and other faiths that believe in the omnipotence and grace of God.

This is a welcome addition to any child's bookcase.

This is a lovely book of prayers....anyone, a mother, father, grandparent...etc. Would love reading this to or along with a child.

The artist put a lot of care into her work.

This is a must for any expecting mother to be or some child you can share with.

This book is organized wonderfully with child-appropriate prayers that run from morning wake-up at the start of the book through bedtime wind-down prayers at the end. My kids love the illustrations which are colorful and have nice detail to them. My second grader can read the prayers, but I have to read the prayers to my five year old.
