Book Description

4 and upP and up
Children entering therapy have many questions and many fears. And this book has many answers! In large print and clear terms, using Margaret Scott's jubilant, witty illustrations, the book explains concepts such as confidentiality ("that's the only really big word in this book!"), the special bond between therapist and child, and the ways that therapy can help children feel better and help their problems become smaller. It's an essential guide to a potentially difficult situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great way to engage and inform a child entering therapy, June 24, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: A Child's First Book about Play Therapy (Hardcover)
What better way to ease a child's mind and nerves than reading a story? This book makes an excellent tool for educating children about the therapy process, engaging their participation, and joining with the child on his or her level. I use it as a beginning intervention with all of my new clients...some of them request it again and again

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, February 9, 2004
By A Customer
I have read the book and shared it with my children. The book is wonderfully written, illustrations are excellent and it does away with the stereotypical idea's about children and therapy.

I highly recommend this book to both parents and professionals who deal with children. From therapists to teachers, this is the one book that you should have in your library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seeing a play therapist the first time, May 17, 2005

River Ganges "Asha" (Mumbai, Maharashtra, India) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Child's First Book about Play Therapy (Hardcover)
This book helps you understand simple facts about play therapy, the therapist and the parents' first experience of this in a gentle way. Children and parents can read this together and prepare themselves for their first therapy moment. The illustrations and language make therapy an approachable and meaningful journey- a non-threatening one by any yard stick. Play therapists will find this useful in their work with children.
