5.0 out of 5 stars A precious Seventies classic
I discovered this book at the library of the Catholic elementary school I went to around 1973. 1.0 out of 5 stars stained merchancdise
When I received this book, it was water damaged and in plastic, so I know it must have left the seller's in that condition. I will endeavor to never use this seller again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A precious Seventies classic, August 25, 2005
This review is from: A Child's Garden of Grass (Mass Market Paperback)
I discovered this book at the library of the Catholic elementary school I went to around 1973. Yep, apparently the nun in charge of buying books was browsing the bestseller list and assumed from the title that it was a childrens' book. Ha haaaaw!! Rick D. and I checked it out in turns and loved it. Of course its content was soon discovered and it was removed from the library (no doubt incinerated), but Rick and I did a joint order (heh heh) to Pocket Books and got each of ourselves a copy. I haven't laid eyes on this title for nearly twenty years, but I can still quote it at length. Like the part that warns you not to get *too* good at rolling joints, because you'll end up sitting in the corner rolling your stupid joints while everyone is going down to the lake for skinny dipping. Or the intro, where the authors say they don't smoke grass and never have, everything in the book is based on what their friend "Ernie Lundquist" told them. Or that nothing is bad when you're stoned, except getting arrested, and even *that's* a learning experience. Or that the results of using a "steamboat" (their term for a big glass waterless bong) would make "even the mighty Zeus shake his head in disbelief." Or referring to the things you will do stoned and not get bored or feel silly, like picking lint off your dog or watching The Flying Nun. I actually think of this book often, after all this time. Highly recommended, even if you've never had a puff in your life (which is, looking back on the effects grass had on my life, my recommendation).

5.0 out of 5 stars LP may be even funnier than the book, December 22, 2002
By A Customer
The LP by the same title is also hard to find, but worth looking for as well. I noticed that laughdome.com currently carries the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly historic document, August 8, 2000

I read this book hot off the press and it gave me many laughs and much guidance through the era of recreational use. I can't imagine any publisher having the chutzpah to reprint this one. A sad commentary on changing times. This was one truly clever book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is hilariously entertaining!, September 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Child's Garden of Grass (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book a while back, and have been looking for it ever since. Hilarious from the start (Introduction: "Hi, we're Rick and Jack.") this book is a fun read and will get you feeling high just by reading it. Recommended strongly to all potheads and people who like a funny, entertaining read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't keep your stash in the curtain rod, December 8, 1999

(REAL NAME)
One of the best books on the marijuana culture of the 60's and 70's but much of it can be applied today as well. The read will be a bit dated ('dime bag', 'lid' and phrases like this are dropped throughout). I found that the "...best way to use pot is to eat it" part very interesting and you know what? It actualy is although you go through it quicker. Who would have guessed that if you fried it in a pan and sprinkled it on pizza that your knee caps would start to float within the hour... The intro alone is worth the read. I still have my paperback copy...right next to the homemade bong that I made from reading this book. Enjoy

Not any words could descibe this book unless they read a bit of it. I love this book.It has no marks, pages yellowed by (age?)...Witty, excellently written--directions and all! I look at the cover and the whole book flashes before my eyes. Published in 1970 by Pocket Books. If I didn't love it so much I'd put it up for auction! Pocket has/had no intentions of republishing the book. They probably didn't make enough money back then...cuz I know where my money went!

4.0 out of 5 stars What Fun it all was.., September 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Child's Garden of Grass (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book when I was 14 or 15 when smoking pot was not considered to be as harmful or frightening as it is today. I clearly recall a chapter on rolling joints and the warning that went along with the text. We were told not to become *too* good at rolling joints or we would be stuck in a corner all night, forgotten by all, busily rolling away. I would read it again just to bring back the memories of a less paranoid era.

I love this book, and I am hoping to get another copy of it. This would be my 3rd, the price one pays for lending stuff to stoners I guess. And if you're one of those borrowers reading this, will ya sell it to me for a good price? It has been awhile since I have been an active participant of this nature, but I will always be a participant in a good laugh :o)
