5.0 out of 5 stars My baby loves this CD
My nine month old son shows a marked preference for this CD. As soon as the opening song begins he breaks into a huge grin, and he stops whatever he is doing to listen to the beginning of each new tune as the songs change. We sometimes listen to "A Child's Garden of Verse" several times a day, particularly during the "witching hour" in the late...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for me.
I was initially really excited when I found this cd. It's such a wonderful idea to put great poetry to music, esp. for children, as I think they find it more accessible. I previewed the songs online and wasn't very impressed, but figured with so many positive reviews I might give it another try. I brought it home from the library and listened to it with my nearly...

5.0 out of 5 stars My baby loves this CD, June 23, 2001

This review is from: A Child's Garden of Songs: The Poetry of Robert Louis Stevenson in Song (Audio CD)
My nine month old son shows a marked preference for this CD. As soon as the opening song begins he breaks into a huge grin, and he stops whatever he is doing to listen to the beginning of each new tune as the songs change. We sometimes listen to "A Child's Garden of Verse" several times a day, particularly during the "witching hour" in the late afternoon. In spite of the constant repetition, I still love these beautiful songs and look forward to hearing them again. I find myself playing the CD on my own after my son has gone to bed. The poetry is timeless, the music is complex and interesting, and I know that we will enjoy this CD together for years to come. I can't wait to try Jacobs' next CD and see if my son finds it equally fascinating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm, Rich and Lyrically Strong, May 20, 2000
This review is from: A Child's Garden of Songs: The Poetry of Robert Louis Stevenson in Song (Audio CD)
I bought it knowing how much I loved Robert Louis Stevenson's verse. The music, I expected, to be a bit childish. It isn't. In fact, it is rich and complex.

They picked some wonderful poems, arranged them so they'd lyrically work. And they do!

My favorites are "The Wind" and "The Land of Counterpane." The wind comes alive, and the poetry in 'Counterpane' is superb.

Though I as an adult love the musical and lyrical sides both, I believe a child would find these endearingly sweet and peaceful while preparing for bed. It could be a great introduction to reading along with the original "Child's Garden of Verses" as my mother did with me.

I fully recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful CD for Whole Family, July 26, 2002
This review is from: A Child's Garden of Songs: The Poetry of Robert Louis Stevenson in Song (Audio CD)
My year old triplets received this CD as a birthday gift. I didn't play it right away because I thought it was another classical music cd of which we have several...I was so pleasantly surprised by this CD. My babies just love it, dancing and clapping to the songs. We play it all the time and are not tired of it yet. In fact I am here today buying a copy as a baby gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Moon" fan, May 25, 2000
This review is from: A Child's Garden of Songs: The Poetry of Robert Louis Stevenson in Song (Audio CD)
I personally watched this CD grow from an idea to a CD. I must say that it is the most sweetest music I have ever heard. I constantly have this CD playing in my office and never grow tired of it. Of all the songs that are on this CD, "The Moon" is my all-time favorite, not only because it is a beautiful song, but the woman that sings the song is very close to my heart. CHEERS TED! You are a born natural at this! Here's to more wonderful CD's!

My 2 year old daughter loves this wonderful collection of poems set to music, as do I. It's perfect for travelling in the car and gentle enough to use as a naptime lullaby. I know that we will continue to enjoy this album for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful for both parents and child alike!, July 27, 1999

While I grew up with these finely crafted poems, and will always have a special place in my heart for them as read from the page, it is exhilarating to finally hear them combined with music that is their equal.

In fact, the more I listen, the harder it is to imagine one existing without the other. This is truly a treat for the whole family to enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A celebration of words & music for you and your child., July 23, 1999
This review is from: A Child's Garden of Songs: The Poetry of Robert Louis Stevenson in Song (Audio CD)
This album is a MUST for every parent who wishes to introduce their children to a world of music and verse that is leaps and bounds above the usual trite fare available for children. Stevenson's poetry is brought to life for a new generation to enjoy. Ted Jacobs music is a pure pleasure.

Out of the myriad cassette tapes and CDs I have bought for my two daughters, this one is our favorite. The musical arrangements are compelling and unusual, the vocals well done, and the lyrics, of course, are pure joy. I find that I can't listen to "Where Go the Boats?" without feeling a lump in my throat, and to hear my children blissfully singing along is honey to a mother's heart.

This CD is made by my teacher and I like it very much. I like the song when they sing about the wind. And I really like it and there's a lot of great children's songs. I love listening to this music. And I really like the Children's Garden of Songs.
