Fun material, but 19th century prose is a serious impediment,

This review is from: A Child's History of England (Paperback)
I got this book as part of the preparations to a trip to England with my 8 year old daughter. The 19th century style prose was totally inaccessible to her (probably no big surprise there), even though she is a smart cookie. But we had a wonderful time with the book anyways, with me reading it aloud and translating to modern English on the fly. The stories in the book are perfect for an 8 year old, so this approach worked well. We learned a lot and it made our visits to some of the castles, the Tower of London, and Westminster Abbey much more fun.
