"In a world where apples and grapes have become poisonous to children, A Child's Organic Garden is a ray of hope and a delight for all ages to read together." -- Eddie Albert, Actor/Environmentalist
Mother Earth has a friend named Leigh Bradford in Wheaton, Maryland. When Leigh was eight years old, she created an organic garden. She wanted to show that people can keep poisonous chemicals from hurting our water, animals, soil, and other people. Leigh gave up her free time after school and on Saturdays to tend to her 100-square foot garden. She learned what tools to use and how to add natural fertilizer, or compost, to the soil. Then she planted seeds for corn, potatoes, and radishes. Leigh's months of gardening produced f resh and sweet vegetables. With her grandfather's help, Leigh even wrote a how-to book about organic gardening called A Child's Organic Garden. -- Adapted from Kid Heroes of the Environment
When Leigh-Leigh Bradford was 8, she decided to learn about organic gardening. After successfully growing vegetables without pesticides in her own garden, she helped her grandfather write a book called "A Child's Organic Garden: Grow Your Own Delicious Nutritious Foods." -- Newsweek - Newsweek for Kids, March, 1993
"A Child's Organic Garden", by Lee Fryer and Leigh Bradford is an appealing new book. It should encourage parents and grandparents to get their offsprings involved in growing chemical-free vegetables in the back yard.
