Nothing new here, but fantastic ending,

This review is from: Child's Play 2 (DVD)
It also has a very creepy and gross beginning, even though there's nothing really to it, it's just Chucky getting rebuilt, but it's still creepy. (Although interestingly, you find out exactly how they put freckles on a doll.)
There's not much of a continuation from the previous film to this, and there's nothing new, apart from the introduction to some new characters, two of whom get quickly killed off, and one who survives. Much more is done with Chucky's eyes, which could practically look straight through you - just evil enough for a doll. The finale is terrific, and as I still have another 3 films to watch, I'm so curious as to how the writers managed to think up more ways for Chucky to return. You'd think at the end of this movie, he's gone for good, but he's not! It's a decent enough sequel, sticking close enough to the original to keep viewers happy, and just enough gory bits to keep you going. I look forward to the next three, but I will never, ever, let any kids I have see these.

Note: contains spoilers.Child's Play 2 is an excellent follow up to the original Child's Play.In my opinion it's just as good as CP 1,if not better. The story, though cool,is a bit predictable and CP 2 has quite a lot of false shocks. In fact, most of the scares are predictable. However,CP 2 added a VERY welcome sense of humor and Chucky has one-liners galore here. There are tons of funny moments.I laughed really hard throughut the entire film. The level of gore is also a little higher than that of the first,so if your looking for gore, you won't be disappointed.Chucky's demise at the end is very gruesome and some of his victims die pretty painfully. The music is very good ands works quite well with the movie. It's scary,action-packed,and at times, heroic and dramatic.Whoever composed the music here should win an award. The score is fantastic. The acting is still great.Brad Dourif is still very devilish at voicing Chucky and he curses a whole lot here. There are lots of amusing moments and the finale in the Good Guy doll factory is one of the best movie finales I've ever seen and is by far the best overall part of the film.Overall, Child's Play 2 is a simply excellent sequel to the excellent original. It's not as dark as the first, nor as scary, but it's so damn entertaining.CP 2 lacks quite a lot in scares due to a lot of plot holes and humor, but the film is simply great fun. I would suggest you buy it now. Rated R for some gruesome death scenes and a lot of profanity.

Chucky's Back -- Nastier & Funnier Than Before!,
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Child's Play 2 (DVD)
Picking up approximately two years after the original movie, "Child's Play 2" continues the story of poor Andy Barclay, the young boy tortured by his best friend -- A doll named Chucky. Most of us know, but for those who aren't up to speed, Chucky (a.k.a. Charles Lee Ray) is the infamous Lakeshore Strangler whom, prior to his death, transferred his soul into a Good-Guy doll, via voodoo. Chucky is one mean doll, but with a "killer" sense of humor. Realizing that transferring his soul into little Andy is the only way to escape doll-damnation, he sets his eyes on the poor boy and kills everyone in his way. Being burnt to a crisp in the first "Child's Play" wasn't enough to stop him, as we see in this movie, in a very bad public relations move, the company behind the Good Guy doll re-assembles the Chucky doll to negate bad publicity. But of course, as is the case in all of these movies, something goes wrong, and Chucky himself is resurrected and continues his path of carnage to get to Andy. "Child's Play 2" is a lot of things, but one simple word comes to mind: Fun. Brad Dourif returns as the voice of Chucky, and not only are the special effects and animatronics much better this time (in other words, no more midget in a Chucky costume), but Chucky starts to come into his own, expressing his unique sense of black humor. Alex Vincent also returns to portray Andy and does a great job conveying a child who has seen one too many dead bodies, and he is finally given a little more strength and independence this time around (too bad Vincent hasn't worked the business since). Writer Don Mancini (who has written every "Chucky" script since the beginning and is director of the newest flick, "Seed Of Chucky") sets up many clever death sequences and creates many memorable stalk scenes -- especially the finale, which takes place in a toy factory. There is plenty of fun to be had in this movie, and plenty of characters to love and to hate at your choosing (mostly hate). It's a strong follow-up to what was an incredible movie. Maybe I'm just being biased as a lifelong Chucky fan (I saw the originalc as a young child and I share the Andy namesake), but I highly recommend "Child's Play 2" for a bloody good time. The DVD is a bit disappointing, however, as all we are treated to are production notes (typical of Universal) and a theatrical trailer. But the movie looks good, and it's a good movie, so overall, a winner.

Unlike the first (great) and the fourth (bad) this movie falls squarely in between somewhere. After apparently being retrived from Andy's mom's fireplace, a greedy playpal's company orders the pint-sized serial killer rebuilt to salvage the corporation's understandably faltering Pr image. Once reborn, Chucky decides to track down andy and pickup where he left off. Andy is sent to a foster home that looks like the parents rake in billions taking care of foster kids. Given their young age, and the realities of foster parent payment, one can only guess how they got the perfect house that Barbie must have built. It's difficult to pinpoint how many rooms this thing has, but it must dwarf the white house for space, and is too sterile and quiet for a child's haven. Kyle, a perpetual foster kid, is Andy's new sidekick in the film. She is a streetwise young woman who does not take any garbage from anybody and ultimately helps Andy destroy Chucky. Another problem I had with the film stems from the dommineering teacher. I never thought I would say this (and please note, I am not endorsing school violence in anyway) but congrats to Chucky for taking out Ms. Kettlewell after she completely humiliated Andy in the classroom in front of his peers. Granted, there is an inconsistency because the whole mess started with Chucky writing bad words on Andy's paper about the teacher, but she was just so unlikeable to begin with.

Child's Play 2 is very different from the first film. It introduces us to comedic Chucky, why is it that every good horror villian has to be a comedian ? The film does have good effects and one-liners though. Check it out if you want a good laugh.

I like this movie most importantly because i consider it a horror gem; dolls are scary enough, but when it's alive, and out to kill, it is utterly disturbing and i consider this movie a staple to any horror buff's dvd collection. I agree that this is the best of the series, and one that's more serious than the ones to come (ie bride of chucky, seed of chucky).
I need to also mention that the actor Brad Dourif is one of my personal fav's, and his voice is perfect to play the role of the possessed doll, i could imagine no other actor doing it as good.. Have a nice day - AmberLee

Sorry Jack, Chucky's Back!!!,

This review is from: Child's Play 2 (DVD)
The second of the CHILD'S PLAY films holds up the true spirit of the first, which is the blending of the SLASHER and SUPERNATURAL HORROR sub-genres. This time, Chucky's re-emergence might be a bit more implausible than it should, but who cares? CHILD'S PLAY 2 focuses on Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), who was branded the culprit of the murders in the first film, despite the fact that there were a number of adults who witnessed the doll's rampage as well. Andy's mother is being given a psychological evaluation for believing her son's story. Andy has landed himself in a foster home with the Simpsons, who have no tolerance for Andy's antics. Also in the home is Kyle (Chritine Elise), whose sort of a rebel. Meanwhile, the Chucky doll is being reconstructed by the "Good Guy" company who want to shake off the skepticism of the press. The reconstruction, of course, revives Chucky, whose still determined to hop out of the doll, into little Andy's body. He heads for the Simpsons home, and gets ready to do his stuff. Soon, Kyle too realizes Chucky is alive, and she and Andy join to stop the doll. This is one sequel that is up there with the predecessor. Chucky is the villian, but the way the adults treat Andy and Kyle actually makes many of them deserve what they get. In particular, there's one scene where a teacher humiliates Andy in front of his entire class and forces him to stay after for detention. She get's her's when the doll shows up. There's also a social worker who scoffs at the idea of the idea of the story being true, and treats Andy and Kyle unfairly. She, too, gets hers. But by far, the best part of the movie has to be the finale, in the "Good Guy" toy factory, where Chucky must capture Andy to swap their souls, and Andy and Kyle must maneuver through all the manufacturing equipment. One factory worker winds up with plastic eyeballs, through a bizarre accident too weird to describe in writing. CHILD'S PLAY 2 may have more gore than the first CHUCKY flick, but then, isn't it supposed to. According to Rany in SCREAM 2, the rules of a sequel are: 1.)The body count is higher. CHILD'S PLAY 2 follows those rules to make a pretty well done sequel, but it still doesn't turn into just another SLASHER flick. Much like the original CHILD'S PLAY, it has some brains to go with it's horror.

The most memorable of the series,

When I was a kid, me and my mom always liked watching the three "Child's Play" movies and we used to watch a lot of other great horror series together such as "Halloween" and "Friday the 13th." Now that I'm grown, I'm still a big fan of all those classic horror series.I like all the movies in the "Child's Play" series, but "Child's Play 2" is by far the most memorable one for me. Chucky is back and he's meaner than ever in this sequel to the groundbreaking classic that featured a demonic doll named Chucky. The dolls are named 'Good Guy,' but Chucky isn't so good. Chucky needs to find a new body soon or something will happen to him that he won't be too fond of. Just like in the original, Chucky is on the hunt for a boy named Andy (Alex Vincent), who is terrorized by the sight of any doll that looks like Chucky. I like all the movies in this series except for "Bride of Chucky." I don't know which one of the first three is my favorite, but this one, "Child's Play 2" is definitely the one I remember the most. Chucky seems more evil than ever in this sequel and many parts, especially the parts that take place in the toy factory, will stick with you long after you've seen the movie. The acting is decent overall, but the special effects and the musical score go great with the movie's horror moments. If you like classic horror movies, I definitely recommend getting "Child's Play 2." If you get just one movie from the series, get this one! It's no child's play when there's a knife-wielding, cursing, and killer on the loose in the form of a doll.

The Chuck's 2nd opus is killer!,

The little one's back in " Child's Play 2 ", a very promising sequel to a horror classic! The beginning sequence in this film is incredibly eventfull. Very commercial opening, very exciting. And the rest of the film, while not as compelling as horror master--Tom Holland's original hug-buddy-gone-mad & bad flick, is still a hell of a ride!I can't see how some one would be bored or non-amused by this horror flick. The acting by little Alex Vincent is perfect. The plot concerns the GOOD GUY doll company re-building the Chucky doll, THAT WAS A BIG MISTAKE! Chucky's powers end up sending one company fella flyin' threw a glass window, and others in the dark hearing mysterious footsteps...wonder who that could be. It just so happens, the lights come on and the mad snuggle-friend has LEFT THE BUILDING. He ends up finding Andy, using mystique-horror villain sencors to find him, like previous horror icons like The Mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, Michael Myers, etc. etc. I'm not really poking fun, its really a great thing that these characters have these mystique qualities, HORROR MOVIES are SUPPOSE to be scarier and more mysterious than real life is ever suppose to be. Anyway, back to " Child's Play 2 ", Chucky finds Andy, causing all kinds of trouble, his foster father believes the kid's been eating to many fruit-loops with his Monstervision marathons. The Chuck ends up chasing Andy and Kyle, a teen girl (who would later appear in Body Snatchers) around in a toy factory, with all kinds of maze-fun and gore-galores, fun it sure is. If you've not yet seen this snuffle-and-buffle killer doll opus with our favorite snuffle-and-buffle killer doll himself, Chucky, I suggest you pick it up and have ONE HELL OF A MONSTER MASH! P.S. Also pick up the original classic and Parts 3 and " Bride Of Chucky. " You could find yourself saying " Its only a movie, but that's what these characters in these movies say."

A Worthy Sequel,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Child's Play 2 (DVD)
When my friend and I rented this film we were expecting a crappy sequel what we say knocked us down. Although it doesn't touch the original it is still pretty sacry. It has the good death scenes, the suspence and awsome lines made by Chucky. If your into horror you won't be disgusted and pissed off by this sequel. it doesn't ruin the original. IT'S WORTH THE RENT.
