FULL of rhymes - charming illustrations,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Child's Treasury of Nursery Rhymes (Hardcover)
We borrowed this book from the library, and our just-about two-year-old will receive a copy for her birthday, as she would like to read it night and day. The illustrations are pretty, yet energetic and not overly sweet, and the content will last several years. Also, this book is very well priced

The most complete of the many "colletions" books,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Child's Treasury of Nursery Rhymes (Hardcover)
I bought at least 4 books on collections of children's rhymes and this one is by far the most complete. The illustrations are good, although they lean a bit too much in the "Where the wild things are" direction for my taste. However, whereas some of the other collections books tend to be full of more illustrations than rhymes, this one fits the bill with a perfect balance between both.Did you know that "Rockabye baby" actually has three verses, not one and that "Mary Had a Little Lamb" has eight verses, not four? Can you remember all the words to "This is the house that jack built" or "The Farmer takes a wife" or "I had a cat and the cat pleased me"? If you'd like to be able to answer yes to these questions, buy this book! It's truly your best choice in the "children's collection of rhymes" group. Of course, my toddler loves the book - it's a favorite for long car rides.

My son LOVES this book!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Child's Treasury of Nursery Rhymes (Hardcover)
At the ripe age of one and a half, he's dog-eared this book and knows all the rhymes. When he wants to hear one, he'll start saying the first line. This book has a great collection of traditional rhymes and an interesting sprinkling of international rhymes, combined with wonderful illustrations. We never travel without this one.

I could remember the tunes but not all the words to some of those old rhymes. This book filled in the gaps plus it has lots of other rhymes, to share with my child.

The CD is the best part,

This review is from: A Child's Treasury of Nursery Rhymes (Paperback)
The book itself is charming and sweet and pretty comprehensive compared to the other Mother Goose/nursery rhyme books we have for our 2.5 yr old boy.
What I feel is really special about this offering, though, is the CD that comes with it. I typically NEVER listen to CDs that are tacked on to books. They usually go straight into the bin, as a matter of fact. But my boy, when I put the CD into the player, pulls up one of his little chairs, sits down, stares up at the CD player and just listens and listens and listens. Some of the rhymes are read, and some are set to music. The word "charming" only partly begins to describe it. I also like that he is getting good practice in exercising his listening skills with no visual stimulus at all.

Great book--buy it!,
This review is from: A Child's Treasury of Nursery Rhymes (Paperback)
All the nursery rhymes and songs you remember from your childhood and then more. Lovely illustrations and extremely attractive layout. Other treasuries of rhyme seem boring in comparison. This one, my daughter loves, and I love to read it out to her.

Some unusual rhymes in this collection,
By Valerie "Val" (England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Child's Treasury of Nursery Rhymes (Paperback)
I have read this book over and over again. There are rhymes from all over the world. Some I heard for the first time. Most of them I liked, some were a bit strange. The illustrations are very realistic in a primitive sort of way. I like them. I often just look at the pictures or wait until dad fancies reading me some again. Valerie.

Brings back some great memories from childhood that I can now share with my children. I recommend purchasing this book because it gives you a lot of the classics (some I don't even remember). Kids love it!

These are not the standard US versions of these nursery rhymes. Also lacking is any indication of the rhythm or tune that accompanies the rhymes.
Still, they are fun and worth the price. |
