5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome review for parents and educators
This is a great book that details how environmental hazards along with food allergies affect children. It analyzes schools and homes to inform people of the chemicals, paint, carpeting, spices, etc. cause symptoms of Learning Disabilities or behavior problems. The chapters in this book are broken down specifically to help you target your concerns. I loved the...

I bought this book when a family member was having trouble with chemical sensitivities. I personally didn't find it very helpful. It focuses too much on changing you child's environment which isn't all that practical when kids spend a large part of their time at school, day care, friend's houses, etc. What really helped us was diet changes, so the person with the...

I loved the pictoral and writing samples given in this book. As a special educator, I found this book extremely helpful in my school building and with my own family. I recommend this to anyone with concerns about their children or students.

This book is incredible and I have given a copy to my son's principal. We had already incorporated a lot of her suggestions based on appointments with our Environmental Physician. Her book was instrumental in helping me replace cleaners in my son's classroom. Also, her other book, Our Toxic World is worth reading as well. We have seen some wonderful changes for the entire family by changing cleaners, eliminating pesticides, and identifying triggers for us. This should be required reading material for school administrators.

Dr. Rapp hits another home run with this work. If you have school age children who have experienced behavioral problems at school, then you want to read this book.

This book also gives the reader suggestions on things that can be changed at home, with diet and nutrition to improve your child's well being.

Don't be surprised if school officials try to discredit this work. After all, "traditional thinking", while outdated, has prevailed for years. We gave a copy of the book to the school principle, who promised to read it. The other "experts" simply pushed the book away and changed the topic.

We have shared this information with others, and have a "loaner copy" that we are sharing with other parents in our school system.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best solutions, July 1, 2010
I bought this book when a family member was having trouble with chemical sensitivities. I personally didn't find it very helpful. It focuses too much on changing you child's environment which isn't all that practical when kids spend a large part of their time at school, day care, friend's houses, etc. What really helped us was diet changes, so the person with the chemical sensitivities could be around cleaning fluids, old books, car fumes, etc. and detoxify these substance like a normal person. While reducing chemicals in our home was helpful, what really helped my relative was cleaning up his diet so he could be in places with carpets, scented candles, cleaning solution fumes, etc. without getting headaches. He just needed to have the proper vitamins and minerals in his body to detoxify these substances, especially magnesium and zinc, which are involved in a number of detoxification processes.

Instead of this book I would recommend Sherry Roger's books on toxicity and chemical sensitivities. They are more diet focused, something you can control instead of trying to change all of your child's surroundings, which is pretty much impossible for children who are not home schooled and have any kind of social life.

Our schools and homes aren't making all children sick and chemically sensitive, they are making some children sick and chemically sensitive. Nutrient levels may well be one of the reasons some kids get sick and some don't given the same exposure to chemical laden environments.

Never outdated, because our toxic world is getting more and more toxic. Dr. Rapp has set the bar in challenging our government, schools, and all mighty industries to take a look at what chemical toxins are doing to our bodies. Will we listen? Will we take action? Will we stop fighting for our health and the health of our children when administrators turn a deaf ear? You do have the power to detox your own environment, educate fellow parents and encourage your schools. Read this book and share it with others...to save and improve the quality of lives around you.

Actually I am trying to find where I could contact Dr. Rapp. We have been living in a house with stachybotrys for two years and my son has developed ADD with mood swings. If anyone can help me please e-mail me.

Thanks
