Most Helpful Customer Reviews

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By wildflowerboy on March 24, 2006
Format: Audio CD
This amazing cd intersperses archival recordings of Salvador Allende, Pinochet, Kissinger and Nixon with present day spoken word from Isabel Allende, Ariel Dorfman, Isabel Letelier, Rene Castro and Joan Jara (widow of the legendary Chilean folk singer, Victor Jara who was kidnapped, tortured and murdered by the Chilean secret police). This cd powerfully documents the US-orchestrated military coup against the democratically-elected Popular Unity government in Chile, a vital piece of Latin American history relatively unknown in the US outside of progressive circles, and crucial for a proper understanding of current US intervention in Venezuela, Colombia and Chiapas. The cd also includes some awesome musical selections from Illapu, Quilapayun, Inti-Illimani and Victor Jara (among many other greats from the Nueva Cancion canon). In short, this cd is an important educational tool for teaching folks about the Pinochet dictatorship and US complicity in the so-called "dirty wars" in the Southern Cone. Thank you AK Press and Freedom Archives for producing this informative cd!

Format: Audio CD
Not only informative, as other reviewers have noted, but a beautifully done blend of music, interviews, archival audio and narration in a broadcast-quality production.
