I purchased this Chilean Doll to go with another Chilean doll as I have two grand daughters and like to get similar items for them. Both of them were very well costumed. This doll is very pretty and stylish in her huaso, or Chilean cowboy costume, which is worn for roundups and rodeos. But she has been designed without the most colorful part of the costume that being the poncho, or manta ( and that is the reason I did not give her 5 stars.) She does have the straw hat called a chupalla and the short waist jacket and tooled leather leggings. The lace in her costume would indicate she's dressed for a celebration.

Before I give the girls their dolls we discuss something about the country that the Dolls of the World represent. Chile has been in the news lately because of the earthquakes it has had to endure. It sits on one of the most active fault scarps in the world. It is the longest country in the world and stretches from the desert in the North to the Antarctic in the South and includes the Easter Islands.

Although Chile has a recent history of political upheaval with violent civil uprisings, it has stabilized in the past several years so that today Chile is one of South America's most stable and prosperous nations. It leads Latin American nations in rankings of human development, competitiveness, income per capita, globalization, state of peace, economic freedom, and low perception of corruption

I must respectfully disagree with the other review stating that this doll's features are not Chilean enough. My husband is Chilean, I lived in Chile for over a year, and my children are half Chilean. I think I am qualified to say that this Barbie does indeed look very Chilean! We have the newer version of this Barbie (sold at Walmart) and it is much less authentic. That one has blond highlighted hair, green eyes, lighter skin, a vest instead of the typical black jacket used in a cueca dance, and the waist and hat sashes feature fabric more appropriate for a Bolivian or Peruvian doll. This doll's red, white and blue sash are exactly what is worn for this traditional dance-- I know because I have worn them :)

I'm Chilean, so I know she's a good example of our country women. There's another 'version' of a Chilean Barbie with a pet dog, she doesn't really fit with our image at all (Chilean cowgirls love horses more), and her clothing is also not very accurate.

I purchased this for my little girl. It was so pretty that I am going to save it for when she is a little older and we can display it. I know this is a previous edition of Chilean Barbie but in my opinion it is superior to the newer version.
