Great book, but Aimee should be herself,
By JL (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chill Out and Get Healthy: Live Clean to Be Strong and Stay Sexy (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a great book with a lot of valuable information. It is structured really well, and definitely is not a chore to read. I do think some sections could have used some more explanation - for example, the parts about the dangers of soy still left me with a lot of questions (e.g., is it still okay to eat edamame? miso soup?). But, I've been a patient of Aimee's for years, and this book still taught me some things I didn't know. My boyfriend and I just threw out his Flaxseed granola yesterday because it contained soy protein isolate, unbeknownst to us!
My main issue with the book, as others mentioned here, is the repetition of the incredibly annoying phrases like "Come on, girls!" and "Honey." I gave the book to a friend, and she had the same reaction - "Awesome book, but the writer should stop with those annoying phrases." Since I know Aimee does not speak this way in normal life, I am guessing that someone told her to write this way, and it's a shame. In my opinion, it really takes away from otherwise great information with studies to back it up. The book is written in such an approachable, easy to understand way, that it truly does not need these extra "Girls" and "Honey" openers. Regardless, I highly recommend this book to anyone. It's especially important for females going through any kind of health issue, but there is also GREAT information for regular women and men.

Read with a highlighter in your hand!,

I loved this book! For those that are overwhelmed by the dos and donts of nutrition and healthy living, Aimee breaks it down and makes it very simple. She explains HOW and WHY foods affect or bodies and health for the good and bad. Addressing why organic?, how to identify harmful ingredients and the alias' companies use to slip these things in our food, sample menus and lots of helpfull hints and resources for products and info. Its a quick layman read jam pack with valuable, obtainable information. Highly recommend it, whether a beginner or a guru, there is something here for you.

Detailed book, but not ideal for Vegetarians,

I gave this book 4 stars for 2 reasons. 1, I feel like the author tries a little too hard to connect to her female audience and it's a bit of a turn off. She constantly uses phrases like 'Girl', 'Let's go Ladies', and on one page, she used the phrase 'Come on girls' three times. It's just a bit too much. 2nd, I don't like the fact that she promotes eating meat over being vegetarian. It's completely possible to get all your necessary nutrients without eating meat. In fact, it's healthier. Plus, I feel that she contradicts herself when she talks about eating a 'nondead' diet, but isn't meat from a slaughtered, dead animal?
Overall, she offers a lot of good information that is straightforward. I recommend reading it, but keep an open mind. Don't let it sway you too much if you're committed to not eating meat.

Overall I enjoyed the book. The information was repeated several times throughout various chapters but you could see how connected the various body systems are. I got extremely tired of the "Girl" comments and the "$#@(*$#" explicits. It took away from the professionalism of the writing. However, that aside, I especially liked the food suggestions she gives you and information on eating more healthily for our bodies. Finally! Someone who's proclaiming soy and isolates we eat in the US are not good for us! I like her focus on women's health coming from the inside out. What we put in is what we put out. She goes into a few different skin types for beauty regimens, which I appreciated. I read the book twice and have started incorporating some suggestions in my daily life. Glad I purchased the book!

I truly enjoyed reading this book!
I am a 36 old working woman who is married with no children YET. I felt Aimee really helped me check in with myself and realize what I am doing right and wrong. Not only does she really teach you how to "chill out", but also get healthy. I am a pretty healthy eater already, but Aimee points out what is good and bad for you. Such as how bad soy is for woman. I knew it wasn't great, but it is really in so many things that I had no idea about. Also, she is realistic about life and that you can't always be perfect. If you are looking to get pregnant like myself, it teaches you how to prepare for that. And I am so excited to learn more about acupuncture and other types of methods besides drugs to hep you get, less stressed out. I would highly recommend reading it. It will be a book that you will go back to reference.

BEST book ever....EVERY woman (and man) should own this book!!,
This review is from: Chill Out and Get Healthy: Live Clean to Be Strong and Stay Sexy (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the BEST book ever. While it is written to women, I still think men should read it too! It is eye opening and explains what you should and shouldn't put in your body and debunks a bunch of hyped up food that we shouldn't be ingesting. It also tells you how to cure and fix and improve all areas of your life so that your body and mind are working the way they should. It is written in a fun "girlfriend to girlfriend" tone and I just couldnt' put the book down.
I have reread it several times and I reference it ALL the time for all health issues. I have given up white sugar and white flour for good (who wants to poison themselves with arsenic!!!! - Not me. And who knew that was in the white stuff) and I feel great. I've bought this book for several people and recommend it all the time. What I love about it too is that it explains how a lot of the food and products we use really mess up our bodily systems and disrupts our hormones. What this book isn't: a boring, scientific hard to read book. Aimee makes reading about health so fun and makes you want to jump into action and get rid of all the crap in your house. I also LOVE that Aimee is so accessible. I've emailed her some questions and she's always emailed me right back. If you aren't sure if you'll like this book, just buy it....you can always return it. BUT, I have a feeling that you won't return this...you will devour it!

This book is amazing! Aimee is down to earth, says it how it is and really knows how to get you excited about getting your life in gear and your body in shape. I love how she gives advice and then tells you where to find what she's suggesting. She has an extremely practical outlook and advice on how to live your life in such a way that you really can Chill Out and Get Healthy . If you're looking for a quick, fun read that really inspires this book is it!

Changed my life!,
By Two X Four (Toledo, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chill Out and Get Healthy: Live Clean to Be Strong and Stay Sexy (Mass Market Paperback)
I devoured this book, every word, every morsel in 2 days and am smitten! I'm adopting all Aimee's expertise and am already noticing a difference. (I swear my face already looks glow-ier than before...). My breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks for the past 4 days have all been menus suggested in the book. I have had zero sugar and am shocked that I'm not pining for it. My belly and body feel happy, my mind is calm and I'm finding brown bananas in my toilet again as of last night!!! Yeehaw! I realize, now, that the missing link in my quest to be "whole" was this book... I need to nourish my mind, body and spirit with healthy food (even meat!) to make them all run smoothly. Aimee did an amazing job keeping me interested, explaining information with science I could understand and witty common sense that just can't be argued.
If everyone adopted this proactive way of life, we would find ourselves and our neighbors much happier, healthier & cancer-free!

Good information, but a little repetitive.,
By Evangeline. "customer" (Chino, ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chill Out and Get Healthy: Live Clean to Be Strong and Stay Sexy (Mass Market Paperback)
This book does offer some really good information. It keeps you interested, and doesn't feel like a chore to read. It does get repetitive in places, especially with all the "come on ladies", "lets go girls", and "ctfo" ( chill the bleep out). If you can get past that, and some of the authors very detailed descriptions about certain bodily functions, than this is a very good book. I never even thought about all of the things in our everyday lives that can take a toll our health. I would recommend this as a worthwhile read.
