5.0 out of 5 stars An Eclectic Fusion Of Chill Out World Music!
What an eclectic range of music! I say this because "Chill Out In Paris 2" has something that most chill out compilations don't have: Diversity! And, unlike most chill out compilations today (which usually try to find cloans of groups like Massive Attack, Chicane and Morcheeba), David Visan coherses world artists with that of smooth mellowness (Disk 1: LOVE) and...

1.0 out of 5 stars This is the worst Chill Out compilation I've heard
If this music is considered Chill Out, then apparently David Visan changed the definition of the genre and didn't tell the rest of the world. How french of him! I don't know WHAT this music is. It was either so dull, it bored me to tears, or it was so annoying that I just skipped right through the tracks. I MUCH MORE recommend Stephane Pompougnac's Hotel Costes...

What an eclectic range of music! I say this because "Chill Out In Paris 2" has something that most chill out compilations don't have: Diversity! And, unlike most chill out compilations today (which usually try to find cloans of groups like Massive Attack, Chicane and Morcheeba), David Visan coherses world artists with that of smooth mellowness (Disk 1: LOVE) and electronic dance beats (Disk 2: HATE), which makes this album even hipper than all other chill out compilations that most likely copy from each other's ideas for it's (dare I say it?) DIFFERENT! Some people are frightened and intimidated by this word but sometimes it's good to expand your musical horizons! You might actually find more joy in listening to the music that YOU LIKE (the individual!), and not just because everyone else is listening to it! That's why, if you're questioning on whether or not you wanna buy this, you should NOT read the first person's review because they're describing this as being cheesy when it's anything BUT that! They're bashing this album just because it's world music! Well, if you don't like world music than I agree: DON'T BUY THIS ALBUM! If you do like it, however, than I highly recomend this! The only song that really reminds me of something I'd hear in Paris, though, is Rosetta Stone's "Paris Divine". Don't let that disgruntle you though for this edition to the Buddha Bar series is well worth the purchase.

David Visan's "Buddha Bar IV" and first "Chillout in Paris" compilation were, to my ear, uneven at best, displays of a wide range of material from the sublime to the uninspired to the downright horrible. But take it from a listener who's addicted to world/chillout music, and who is always seeking out my next, new "fix": "Chill Out in Paris 2" is without a question the ABSOLUTE BEST CD I own of this genre. It surpasses any of my favorites from the "Hotel Costes" and "Cafe del Mar" series. In fact, the only recording that stands up to "Chill Out in Paris 2" is the over-the-moon masterpiece, "Buddha Bar 1" by Claude Challe.

Put this CD in your system and you'll be on a vacation that Alice in Wonderland would envy. Buy it, you can't go wrong. Any of the reviewers who gave this aural gem less than five-stars is simply not a fan of this style of music. Superb, utterly original selections, recorded, mixed and blended beyond perfection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great ecletic mix cd from Buddha Bar, August 31, 2002

I was at [a store] a few weekends ago when I was in the music department listening to some music samples. One of the cds I listened to happened to be "Chill Out in Paris 2". I automatically loved what I heard based on the first four tracks I listened to. I didn't get a chance to listen to the second cd but I knew I would like it as much as I would with the first cd. I bought the 2 cd mixed compilation. I didn't realize until I got home and listened to "Chill Out in Paris 2" that there were two different moods. The first disc is described to be as "love" and the second disc as "hate". The "love" disc contains more mellow music while the "hate" disc contains more upbeat, danceable music. On both cds there is a obvious influence of world music, especially a middle eastern influence. I have no problem with this unlike the previous reviewer. Not all chill out music is going to be the same ol' Portishead/Massive Attack sort of music. That would be boring. I love that all the songs are more obscure to me 'cause I am sick and tired of seeing the same ol' song on every chill out compilation that is released. I think the "love" disc is my favorite of the two with its haunting melodies and soothing beats. I do enjoy the "hate" disc a lot though. It should have been the first disc and then to end this great mixed compilation with the charming "love" disc. Nevertheless, Buddha Bar and Dave Visan put out a top notched, quality mixed compilation that is well worth the money. It was definitely well worth every penny I shelled out for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great chill out mixed cd from Buddha Bar, September 7, 2002

I was browsing around [a store] a few weekends ago when I decided to listen to a few cds to see if they were worth checking out. One of those cds were "Chill Out in Paris 2" from the ever so popular Buddha Bar series where the namesake comes from the legendary hangout. Judging by the song titles nad artists themselves, I knew that there was going to be a bit of an international flair to this album. I didn't care because I like world music. After listening to the album for the first time, I noticed that each disc had a separate, distinct sound of its own. On the "Hate" disc, the sound is more upbeat, danceable while the "Love" disc the music is more mellow and relaxing to listen to. I absolutely love both discs but the "Love" disc really stands out for me. That is what got me to buy "Chill Out in Paris 2". I loved the opening, haunting melodies of Trumpet Thing's "La Sonadora" (ambient mix), Solferino & Ibis Babe's "Wisdom of "Sands", and the following two tracks. Just hearing samples of the first four tracks convinced me to buy this album. Buddha Bar put out a really terrific mixed cd and Dave Visan did a wonderful job at mixing the songs together. Who cares if this album sounds like you would be hanging out in Baghdad? I certainly don't.

I MUCH MORE recommend Stephane Pompougnac's Hotel Costes series, which sounds like ambience meets Edith Piaf (awesome!) and any of the Cafe del Mar series mixed by Jose Padilla (volumes 1 -6). Chill Out in Paris 2 was a total bust and I regret even having bought it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Compilation - Just Not Technically a Chill Out CD, January 14, 2006
This review is from: Chill Out in Paris 2 (Unibox) (Audio CD)
'Chill' is a technically a dance track track that unwinds you as the sun is coming up and the DJ wants to ease you into the morning. It must have a beat - otherwise, it's not a chill out track.

The term has been lifted by others to mean anything meditative, new age, world, soft, etc ... so while this is a fine compilation, it is not really a chill out CD.

One disc is actually a fine collection of Trip Hop/near Gao Trance tracks and it's mostly Indian (hence the Gao) but that doesn't really matter, it's solid trip-hop but it's misleading to label anything with vocals in another language 'chill' but I guess it's easier to sell than New Age/World or Trip Hop.

The other disc is also fine (mostly) Indian tracks with some Spanish tracks that is a nice collection of solid tracks but it is most definitely not chill - but again, they didn't want to scare people by labeling it 'world' music which is what it really is.

So, if you're looking for true 'chill' dance tracks - these discs aren't it. If you want some pretty solid trip hop tracks performed by non-English artists, one of the disc will make you happy. If you like to broaden your music horizons, the other disc is fine collection of interesting 'world' tracks so really just minus some stars for trying to mislead you.

Chill out in paris is nothing more than a nicely design package. It has an inviting title but would people still buy this cd if it was name "CHILL OUT IN BAGHDAD"?. This album should NOT be file under "Chill out" but rather "NEW AGE". Most of these artists on the cd are like YANNI or ENYA but only unknow. If you consider Enya's music is chill out than i guess this cd is for you.

I am not TRASHING this cd. I am just telling you that it is MISLEADING cd. I do like middle eastern music influence in the chill out scence like TALVIN SINGH or Bardmarsh&Schri. Or that song, Cleopatra in NEW York from the Hotel Costes compilation. Those songs work well with the eastern flavor. But CHILL OUT IN PARIS sound is sooooooo cheesy. When I listen to this cd it gives me GOOSEBUMP, not the good goosebump cause it's emotional but cause it is CHEESY.

Well I spent 10 bucks for the "Chill out inp aris 2" cause it is a promotional cd. But it is still a waste of money. For those people who listens to Kruder&Dormiester, Dimitri from paris, Paris Lounge, Hotel Costes, or even the commercial Ultra Chilled, dont expect to get the kind of chill out you want in this CD. Save your money folks. But do buy if you like Enya or Yanni.
