Loved them for awhile, but then....,

Chill Pill Mobile Speakers iPod/MP3 Players & Laptops
I bought these after reading a very positive review in one of the Mac magazines. Loved them right away. I use them mostly when I watch videos on my ipod or my larger, folding Sony dvd viewer. They are compact, and sound good-not good enough for stereophiles or high end music listening, but great for lo to medium-fi listening. They pack easily and the speaker bodies are rugged. The charge lasts longer than they say it will, I commonly got 10 hours from each charge. Couldn't use them with my portable radio (eton), it buzzed miserably. Can't have it plugged into the electric outlet and listen to it plugged into any device-buzzes badly. I can live with this, however, since can just about always plan my charging times based on my needs. Unfortunately, my relative delight with the speakers has been squashed. After about 6 months of frequent, but careful use, the wires and connections all became useless and NO sound comes out at all. I am not rough on products, in fact, I tend to respect them quite a bit, and handle them with TLC. The cord retraction was great at first (very handy!), but it got consistently worse over time, until the cords no longer retracted at all, the caps of the cords fell off, and any slight movement of the cords began to lead to crackling/dropping sound coming from the speakers. They are now completely useless. Also. the charge light doesn't no longer comes on when it's plugged in, though the speakers seem to have charged anyway. Who can tell, as NO sound comes out! I'd like to give the product four stars, but due to complete product breakdown after 6 months of normal use, I'm going to go down all the way to 2. If they can make the cords more rugged and reliable, this product could really rock.

Charging Function Doesn't Follow Device's Innovative Design,

First things first: Don't expect high fidelity sound out of these tiny speakers - this product is all about convenience. Everything needed to operate the device stays with it, including the audio cables and built in rechargeable battery. The only exception, and this is a big one, is that the USB charging functionality requires a separate and easy-to-lose mini-usb gender changing cable (included in the box). It's simply not possible to plug the device directly into a computer without some sort of adapter or additional cable. Most computers don't have a mini-usb connector. That disappointment aside, these are very innovative portable speakers. I hope the manufacturers will find a way to integrate the charging cable into future versions.

My Favorite Portable Speakers (ever),
By
This review is from: Chill Pill Mobile Speakers iPod/MP3 Players and Laptops (Black) (Electronics)
I searched forever to find inexpensive portable speakers that I could throw in my bag and not have to worry about. I needed something that didn't require a power outlet (self-powered) plus they had to work with my MacBook Air and first generation iPhone without any adapters (silly recessed headphone jacks). The Chill Pill speakers fit the bill perfectly. For their incredibly small size, they can really belt out some toons. They charge via USB so I can use my computer or iPhone/iPod USB adapter to recharge them and I don't have to carry any extra power cables. Plus the Chill Pill's cables retract back into the speakers, so there are no cords to coil or untangle. The cables are even shielded from interference so I don't have to put my iPhone in airplane mode to use them.
I've bought 5 pairs of Chill Pill speakers, two for me and the rest for gifts. One set hangs out in my kitchen so I can listen to podcasts and music off my iPhone. The other is always in my laptop bag for watching movies on the road and making boring hotel rooms feel a little more like home. Since these speakers are cheap, it was easy to recommend them for my sister's vacation to Mexico because it wouldn't be a big deal if they went missing during the trip. If you're the type of music listener who notices the sound quality differences between CD tracks and MP3 files, you'll probably want higher-end speakers than these to faithfully reproduce every note. If you're like me and just want something easy to use that can blast some tunes, I highly recommend the Chill Pill mobile speakers.

Ok sound but power and audio are separate,

You can't run these speakers with power, while running them attached to your audio source. It's either or. I didn't know that when I bought it. So, you run the speakers for a while, they die, you charge them, then you hook them back up to the audio source.

Dont Buy These,

I bought these speakers 4 months ago and thought they were great, they have a fundamental flaw in that the speaker jack is very weak and despite being very careful the wire connection to the jack is now broken and the speakers useless.
I am not some ham fisted person pulling on the cable and the speakers have been on my desk at work so only connected and disconnected once a day.

Excellent Speakers,

I bought these for my Asus 1000HA. They give a great sound for such small speakers, loud and crisp with a good bass. They are easy to recharged thru a USB port. Everyone who sees them and hears them can't believe the sound. I don't think you can find better speakers for the price and portability.

smaller than I expected,

Each speaker is only about the size of a racket ball and the chords are short (they barely reach to either side of my laptop). They do sound better than I would have expected out of something that small, but they are by no means hi fidelity. At a "list price" of $50 a pair, you are paying for the convenience of a small package, not sound quality. They pack up very small and have spring loaded self-recoiling cords. They sound more like $25 speakers to me, but if a small package and convenience is important to you, they may be worth it as set of travel speakers for your laptop.
Contrary to what someone else posted, I found that I could technically charge while listening, but it resulted in an annoying high pitched tone to be emitted from the speakers. About 50% of the people I ask don't notice the high pitched squeal, so it may not matter to you (especially if you don't have great hearing in the higher registers).

charging system a hassle,

Although very cute and compact, these speakers are a hassle to charge. you have to unplug the speakers and plug one into the computer and are unable to listen from them while charging. these are ideal for travel where you are able to charge the speakers off your computer before taking them out.
they do have nice bass for their size.and sound is pretty good although shakey when the volume is up loud. overall, i would not choose to get these speakers again, although they are a good traveling size... but for use as my main speakers for my laptop, they are just annoying. oh-- and the only way to charge is thru a USB port.

My mom gave me these a week ago and HOLY MOLY, they're awesome. They're portable, rechargeable, cute, and loud. Their bass is very good for such tiny speakers. They're just awesome!
