5.0 out of 5 stars Great compillation.
I wasn't too sure whether to buy this CD, but I must say I am glad I did. I had about 8 of the 16 songs already on different CDs, but this compillation makes it easy to listen to some great music with many different styles in one CD.

Some songs are older - something you might have heard couple years ago, and maybe even forgotten since, but they are all really good...

I saw this advertised on TV, and bought it right after seeing the commercial (literally: minutes after seeing it, I was in my car). Of course, now that I have it, I'm thinking that wasn't such a good idea.
There's nothing really wrong with this collection. Just the fact that people who are into this kind of music are already going to have a majority of the songs on here. And, the fact that Mike Oldfield's "Tublar Bells" was absolutely butchered to be included. Plus, it's not really "chill-out music" as some have called it. More of a "Pure Moods wanna-be." Which is exactly why it fell short of the 5-star rating. (Plus, I just really can't get over the "Tublar Bells" thing.)
I would recommend this to someone who isn't familiar with this style of music. It is an excellent introduction, as long as you skip over "Tublar Bells" and listen to the -real- recording. There are some great tracks on here, especially "Return to Innocence" and "Porcelin." But to those who have amassed a collection of music like this (like myself), I would advise you to save your money.

Im so glad I payed [so little] for this. Its not that its so bad. This compilation just doesn't know if it wants to be new age or electronica. Best tracks are from The Orb, Moby, and Everything but the girl. But then a few tracks are just bad, and the rest is filler. If you want new age stuff, get "Pure Moods". If your more into electronica, go for the "Urbal Beats" volume one compilation. This just tries too hard to be both.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new to offer, May 5, 2002

It seems lately that with every chillout compilation there are the same ol' song, like with Moby's "Porcelain" and William Orbit's "Adagio For Strings". This album is no exception. I say I have like 80% of these songs on the original albums or on other chillout compilations. Compared to some of the chillout compilations I have bought in 2002, the material on "Chilled Spirit" is rather dated. The lack of any more diverse artists on this compilation is the biggest flaw I saw with this album. The lack of imagination is quite evident. All the songs that were selected for this album was overly predictable choices. The songs themselves weren't bad. I liked them, especially Moby's "Porcelain", Enigma's "Return to Innocence", and Robert Miles' "Children". Unfortunately those songs could easily be found on any other chillout/new age compilation and the lack of thought put into this album really insults my intelligence. Good material but too predictable and no new or different artists and songs that I haven't heard before. Thank heavens I got this album for cheap 'cuz it sure ain't worth full price.

Some songs are older - something you might have heard couple years ago, and maybe even forgotten since, but they are all really good songs. I would greatly recommend it - it is not really a CD that could run as a background music -- it is music for chilling but you will catch yourself quite often either grooving to it, singing the words, or humming along.

I am happy I bought it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chill All the Way Through, June 9, 2004

Even though I agree that most of the songs on here are on other ambient compliations, I would have to say that this CD was well put together. I love the version of "Moments In Love" that was on here, as well as the Adagio song. There are dancey moments, but if you're looking for something to put on without having to flip through tracks, I would definitely recommend this release. It has the right combination of high and low tempo beats for those days when you just want to... chill, I guess.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's GOOD! Definately An Album With Flavor!, November 12, 2003
This review is from: Chilled Spirit: 16 Songs for the Mind, Body, and Spirit (Audio CD)
I thought this album absolutely ROCKED! I was feeling every track except for maybe 2 or 3. Everything else was great! I like the diverse mixture of music. Every song had a different theme and left me with a positive feeling of some kind by the end of the song. The beats are all great and it's the perfect CD for like a nice casual gathering with friends who've all got different tastes. I wouldn't call it like a dance compilation, although there are a few bumpin beats to it. It's great music for relaxation with a loved one for sure. My boyfriend and I have listened to it together several times. It's definately one of our favorites. It definately is music for the mind, body and soul. I loved it. I'd love to see more just like it!

If you can't get the first song right on a compilation CD then what does that tell you about the rest of it. Usually, I am left disappointed when compilation CD's are promoting songs that are over a year old. THIS CD has songs that are ancient - and it's not like they are "classics" to begin with.
